This is the "Sister Car" to Steve McGee's "Black Beauty. It's another fairly obscure one from the Alpha List and both are from AMT.
The "Flying Wedge"
Both Chassis are based on T.V. Tommy Ivo's first Rear Engine Dragster but the body work of this car is considerably different. The "Tail" is longer, the "Nose" is shorter & has a Wing and there are no rivets or raised panels on the body work. It is most similar to the Wedge Dragster Connie Kallitta crashed at Indy back in 1971 although I don't believe this specific car ever actually existed.
The paint is; Testors White Lightning Lacquer for the Chassis & base coat of the Exterior Body Work, Testors Grabber Orange Lacquer for the Mid Coat of the Exterior Body Work, Drive Train & Blower Hat "Butterflies", Testors "Wet Look" Lacquer for the "Filler Coat", Decal Sealer & Top/Clear Coat. Krylon Brushed Nickel Metallic for the interior Body Panels, Floor Pan and Seat Shell, Krylon Matte Clear to flatten the Upholstered Items and "Packed" Drag Chute. Various Testors Model Master bottle paints were used for details such as the "Walnut Wood" Hand Brake and "Butterfly" Steering Wheel Handles, Polished Aluminum Rivets, Seat Safety Harness, Upholstery & "Snaps", "Well Worn" Brake Calipers and the "Packed" Drag Chute. The "Body Graphics" were hand taped and painted in a six stage process since the original kit decals do not include the White "Wedge Panels". A small amount of Barer Metal Foil was used to detail the Brake Calipers and Hand Brake Handle.
The "Sponsor/Contingency" Decals are from the Original Kit Sheet. The rest of the sheet with it's "Psychodelic Lightning Bolts" Wedge Panels is intact and in good condition. They were not needed because I was attempting to duplicate the box top art. One thing I would say is that the original sheet does not come with two STP or IHRA decals so you have to improvise with a considerably smaller NHRA and a similarly shaped (similar to the STP decal, that is) Good Year decal for the right side of the car. But, hey, asymmetry is Kool, right, and you can't look at both sides of the car at the same time anyway!

This was also a very straight forward build, being nearly identical to the "Black Beauty". This is the only release of this kit as well (1972) and our old friend, John Bogosian (the same guy who brought us the "Li'l" series !) was a design partner on this one.
Thanks for looking!
