It's been a long time since I've posted anything so I thought I'd share a restoration I started a couple of months ago . This old Impala is a survivor that I built back around "70 or "71 and have managed to hold on to for 45 years or so ! Here's what it looked like when I opened the box . Disassembly was a breeze since I was past the phase of using more glue than was needed . After 24 hrs in a bath it cleaned up pretty nice ! I'm going to make this a convertible and will be using the up top from the Monogram '59 Impala . The top had to be narrowed about 1/8" to fit the '58 body . Here I've reshaped the side window openings and cut the body across the back . The trunk is marked where it needs to be rescribed and the doors have been glued shut . After rescribing the trunk I added a little trim and did some body work . When I built this 45 years ago I made a crude front hinge for the hood out of a paperclip , I've upgraded a bit to some brass rod and tubing . Now jump forward a couple of weeks to today . The paint is Tamiya Metallic Blue cleared with Tamiya Clear Blue which subdues the metallic and darkens the color a bit . I just finished the foiling this morning , and used a fine red Sharpie on the side molding . So now you're up to date ! More to follow .

You can keep all your 55 , 56 and 57 Chevies, the 1958 Chevy was always my favorite . Looking forward to more progress shots, its looking good already !

Following this one for sure, any more progress shots to share , Tooold? Thanks for following along Hale ! I've been fighting off a lack of motivation the last couple of months and actually started this '58 to remedy the problem . Not sure it's working as I now have three builds on my bench and I manage to stare at them all day but never do anything ! I did start on the interior this evening and maybe can take some pics tomorrow or Sunday .

I got a little sloppy painting the interior , and also sprayed some DullCote before it was completely dry so the colors ran a bit . I think I'll go with it and keep plugging along .

Got the Revell version with the AMT open doors added, sittin'on my bench, just waiting for some love.

I really think the lines of the uptop are much nicer than the hardtop , I just wish I could get some motivation to really build one right . I've got the Revell kit too . . . maybe I'll give it a try !

Bob, You never seace to amaze... A fond memory from the youth of most guys was dreaming about fixing an old beater. Your 58 does not speak the words model kit. To me it says that a 16yr. old kid finally talked his parents into letting him buy that old car from the farmer down the road. with a fresh coat of paint, and some snazzy wheels, a young mans dream has come true. Cruise On young man... 50"s style!

That came out great Bob!!! Glad you kept the Paddy Wagon wheels, they really make this car. The color, and vert top really give it style, along with the snazzy interior!!!

Restoration, my a...fterburner. That's more like a complete make-over. And beautifully done. I just love the new color scheme and all the attention to detail that went into this job.

Whoa , I wasn't expecting all these replies . I didn't spend the time or effort on this build that I should have and ended up cutting some corners to get it finished . Thank You everyone for the kind words !
