This is my Big Fun for Little Bucks I/Gas Bug. Popular with my shop teacher when I was in Trade School in the very late 60's, it would run mid 10.5 / 10.6s at around 125/ 130 mph by 1972. Started with the Tamiya 1966 V.W. 1300. Made the engine cases in to the EMPI Big Bore and Stroke cases, modified the heads into Dual Ports. Made up the missing push rod tubes and the Equal length 33mm headers. Made the 45mm intake runners and the MAG Axial supercharger that replaces the generator.Engine went from 1.2 liters to 2.3 liter and would be around 145 h.p.@ 20 pounds boost. Made the carb adapter for the Rochester 4 barrel. Made the Meyers solid transaxle mount and the VW Kombi reduction boxes for the axle ends, This gives a final rear gear ratio on 4:30. Wheels are from the Revell Thames kit with the rears narrowed to fit the Revell 1969 Nova 8 inch slicks. Interior mods are plastic card panels where the rear seat was and a roll bar. A Hurst Shifter was modified into a Hurst VW QUIK Shift unit. Bumper mounts, signal light holes and license plate mount and light were removed and filled. Body is painted Tamiya Candy Orange clear over Testers Hugger Orange. Windows are tinted with Tamiya Smoke. Paul
