It was last December when I planned on starting this restoration but it took this long to get my motivation going again ! Here's what I'm starting with . It's complete except for the bows for the top and the rear bumper mounts are broken off . Disassembly wasn't too bad , the only casualty was the front axle . I could probably use it but I've got a spare . Turns out the body and fenders were originally painted with black primer . Even with two trips into the stripper it all wouldn't come off .

Here's my spares , I won these with a $3 bid . I've decided to repair the broken bumper mounts instead of using the spare . To start I sandwiched some plastic sheet together to get the correct thickness , then traced the shape of the mounts . I used a couple of small grinding bits on a Dremel to get the basic shape , then finished with some small files . I also filed some notches to locate the mounts . And here's the bumper mounts glued in place .

Thanks ! The remaining paint actually flaked right off with very little effort ! A couple of coats of white primer . . . . . . and a coat of some Bright Red !

Hey Brother Bob... I absolutely LOVE the fact that you made your own bumper mounts, and used them on the original parts. Beautiful Work!!!

Neat! That red looks great. Are you having chrome parts replated or going with paint and metalizer finishes?

The front suspension is next . Here's the parts . . . I'm going to use the original axle but make a couple of knuckles for posable front wheels . Added a small block to the broken part of the spring , just for support and it won't be seen . I found a piece of rectangular strip the right size for the knuckles . After filing down the end of the axle I drilled it and the knuckle to insert straight pins . Here's a finished knuckle with the stub axle glued in place . The finished front axle assembly with knuckles installed and a stock front axle . I needed to keep the same width so the wheels/tires would sit in the stock location . So I guess it's not a stock restoration any more , but it's close . To be continued . . .

Bob, I can't express how sweet is is to see someone making their own parts! Thanks Bill ! I just got some supplies so I can practice doing some resin casting . Painting the front suspension as a unit will be much easier and the spare fender unit makes a dandy fixture ! I had to hunt for some replacement headlight lens and found the exact ones in the new Blue Bandito kit , they even have the locating notches . The original lens popped right out by drilling a hole in the center . Add the Blue Bandito to my list of parts cars or cheap kits to hunt for !

Instead of using the Blue Bandito lens I decided to make a quicky mold and cast a new set . I saw Fordrodnkustom use this clear resin so I picked up a can to try (thanks Ron !). Not bad . After cutting the lenses out they should work just fine . And the old decals went on okay , followed by a couple of coats of clear . More to come . . .

Here's the finished chassis . Nothing fancy , just some basic paint . Top view . And the engine in place . I might actually finish one in 2016 !

Spent all weekend working on this and accomplished nothing ! At least it seems that way . Finished painting most of the misc parts , then took the wheels apart to spray some more Alcad on them , they only had two light coats and looked too dark to me . Finally got the radiator shell/grille and the headlights installed . The interior and top was painted Pure White then sprayed with Dull-Cote . Should be wrapping this up in a few days !

Looking good! I agree with you on the wheels. They looked grey before, and now they look more like polished aluminum.

After going back and forth for a while I decided to paint the upholstery inserts . Not so easy and it took a lot of touch up to look decent . And the bumpers are installed . . . I'm in the camp that likes the plate on top !
