Starting the Certain T build here with the first initial stages of how I build the body's. I will try and document the process as I go from each phase of work so you can see how I get from nothing to an actual body in print from. This is about an hour of work so far. I start out with a cube and start cutting and shaping. The background image gives me a reference to where I need to be with window shapes and overall proportions. Actual dimensions become really important if I can get them. It starts out blocky as we see it now and I will start refining the surfaces later on. Mike

It's amazing that, even in this early stage, you can tell what it is right away! Even got the color close!

8/24/17 Update: The work I did today was to get the front and rear wheels closer to the reference images. Its kind of lets get back and look at the overall shape stage. I'm already seeing issues with my proportions which is important for the final output. Overall I see the body needs to get wider. Tomorrow I'll start tweeking some of those overall issues. Its a process! Some updated images of the wheels and some color on the body.

Amazing Mike! This is TOO cool!! And the nice thing with 3d printing it, I guess, is that the body can be one piece as you're not restricted by the problems that injection molding a shape like this would pose. Might be an idea to have the roof as a seperate piece if possible anyway, just in case you want to resin cast them, I guess...
The wheels look GREAT! I wonder if they'd work to be printed with one of the Shapeways metal materials? They'd look GORGEOUS in their silver, I bet. Nice work bud!

When I did the original drawings for a STUNNING Uncertain T recreation it was done with much more primitive tools. A photo, a ruler, a pencil, and a sheet of styrene.
Old School Craftsmanship has been replaced by Modern Technology. There was no doubt that my world would be replaced by yours at a given point in time. CONGRATULATIONS! That time has arrived.
I am eager to see what what your computer programs can do that my arthritis cremes, and trifocals cannot.
This thread gives me a reason to return to the place I held so dear! Looking forward here for the first time in a long time.

Build On Brother!
First let me say that this is a gallant effort to put a 3D printed piece of modeling/show rod history in the world..... Yes it's true Bill.without your perseverance in upscaling the drawing for me I may never have taken the time to utilize my own drafting capabilities.. this is what I loved about our modeling community.. the brotherhood of helping each other through difficult times or helping with our hobby!! . Now, because of the subject matter and odd proportions there were things that worked in small scale that had to be treeked in the large scale world .. "K" factors of radius were one as well as the the compound curvature's of the body l ... things that a machine can't compensate for from photos..things that only the builder could share with me.... Brother Bill your drawings were a true inspiration for me, along with your friendship, Steve Scott, The late John Bissinger, and many many more of my Old friends here on Coffifn Corner were responsible for helping me find the strength, motivation, and reference material for the 8th scale "T" I built . Credits for Having the EXACT nailhead engine,Pontiac hydro transmission, and R&P steering goes to my friends at TDR Innovations... again.. not trying to hijack this thread... keep up the great 3D work.. looking forward to more progress pictures !! One of the old guys , --Starryeyes--

It's looking REALLY good bud - thanks so much for sharing these pics! It's really cool to see it come together in software like this. Something interesting about the UT - in some pics it looks like there's a little 'ridge' or detail on the cowl, and in some pics you can't see it. Like here... and here ...you can see a little bit a detail line on the cowl just below and forward of the bottom corner of the front 'window'. But then in some other pics, it doesn't look like it's there I wonder if there were some mods made to the body at some point perhaps? It got repainted at least 3 times, so I guess it's feasible that they did some tweaks to it...

That detail on the cowl is definitely going in. The next thing I'll work on is the dash.
Does anyone have the actual model and can give some actual centimeter or millimeter dimensions of the roof?...front to back This will really help me get the scale as accurate as possible.
Thanks for posting the images...I'll keep updating 😀

Pat W on here has an Uncertain T - I'll message him so he can see this in case he doesn't spot it. He'll definitely know the answer about the dimensions (assuming someone else doesn't before he does)

Yea I'm going to get the dash in! So look for that in the next update along with that cowl detail. It's getting there as you can see it's a process that takes time.
Cheers

Hi, yes I have a resin kit in 1/24/1.25 scale and here's the dimensions of the lid, sorry roof! So that's.... 4.9 cm across the windscreen. 5.3 cm along the sides and I squared off the rear taking into consideration the compound curves at 6.8cm. Give me a shout if you need any further help/dimensions, whatever.

Thank you so much for the dimensions. This will help so much. It got into thinking about getting measurements for a couple of other areas but I will send pictures of what that might be.
Without getting too far ahead of myself, what other key parts should we make such as frames rails, grill shell or any suggestions. I got into thinking to make a kit without making the whole kit. What are the essential things to make this kit? No engine or transmission.
Is is it possible if someone can lend me the kit for reference use ? That way we know everything will be accurate.
Any thoughts or ideas will be appreciated.
Thank you!

Ohhh, someting closer to a kit would be REALLY cool! Even just the body will be great, but the more bits to make it easier the better I guess!
Most of the drivetrain should be easy to find from other places - so wheels, axle, tyres - even the radiator shell probably wouldnt be super hard to find elsewhere. The seats and frame and front axle are bits that I think would be the hardest bits to scratchbuild - particularly those seats. That might mean that theyre hard to 3d model too though...
As soon as the body's finished I'd be DELIGHTED just to have that - anything else would be a bonus

Something interesting about the UT - in some pics it looks like there's a little 'ridge' or detail on the cowl, and in some pics you can't see it. Yes, there most definitely is a ridge. It's standard on Model T cowels of the time.

Dear Old Guy, You don't give yourself enough credit for your COSMIC CREATION. Your 1:8 scale "Uncertain-T" is unmatched! It was an honor to work with you while you were building... no... CREATING it. You really know your stuff Steve

Hi Steve, So good to hear from the actual creator of this car. Im curious to know how long did it take you to create the body and the build from start to finish?
Mike
