This is gonna be a FUN project! I was a Coffin Corner lurker when the first Name Game happened, and I spent the last ten years lurking some more and wishing I'd got involved...so a second chance at this is TOO cool! Thanks to everyone who signed up. I got the unique pleasure of seeing all the names as they came in - and I did a SERIOUS amount of imagination-building in the last month thinking "Ohhh, if I get that name I have THIS cool idea" or whatever for all of them. And the one name I was a bit stuck for ideas on was one of the two I got out of the Tiki head. That'll teach me for daydreaming ahead of time But, I've been thinking of ideas all morning, digging through my parts boxes, doodling and coming up with some ideas - I even watched a Netflix documentary on this particular subject matter to get some ideas and now I'm SUPER excited about getting started with it! I'll be building through the day, but I'm gonna use this crusty old Tijuana Taxi gluebomb as the basis for my project - and believe me, the name I got takes me about as far from Mexico as it's possible to go. Another update once I've done something

That's one kit that I've never owned, though I do have a few ideas for things to do to one. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

That's bitchen. Love boat-tail roadsters/racers, and the lines of the TJ Taxi chassis are pure elegance..

Plugging away here - found and modified the floor from the Tijuana Taxi and added some detail to the 'body'... This engine is going to need some clean-up though...might be the worst one I've ever started with...

That is cool so far. In you first pic, what are those drive chains parts from? They're from the Beer Wagon bud: Was thinking of using them for the rear end - haven't quite got that far yet though... I'm waiting for some parts in the mail (I spent a couple of hours looking at Warhammer stuff on eBay...I don't know much about that stuff but they have some cool parts that might come in handy!) but it's starting to look like a thing a little now... More soon!

Very interesting!!! , looks like your well on your way ,can't wait to see the completed look. Thanks John! I've got some parts coming next week for this that will take it to the next level...I can't wait for them to come so I can show y'all. In the meantime was stuck on how to get a woodgrain finish on the side of this thing...I considered airbrushing it or brushpainting it but I'm a better builder than painter... In the end I settled for scoring it with an exacto. Should look good when I come to do some washes and dry brushing, hopefully...

Something I noticed about this contest that I didn't consider before starting...usually when I start a build I've got an idea already and I've been kinda thinking of it in my head for a long while before I get to start it. With this contest, I've been kinda building and working things out as I go, and as such everything takes FOREVER to get done. It's fun though, I'm REALLY enjoying it. Today's day-long project; figuring out some rear wheels. These should be big enough, right?

Figured out th front end this morning...axle from an old trashed Red Baron, and wheels from an AMT Model T kit... I got some parts in the mail that I'd been waiting for... ...how about THIS for a shifter? Lots to do, but it's starting to look like a showrod now!

I'll be grinning after I figure out how to paint woodgrain I have one good tip for you. After you do whatever washes/drybrushing with blacks, browns, tans, oranges, yellows, grays.whatever: take some Testors Model Master turn signal amber (acrylic or enamel - whatever is compatible with what you used underneath) and do a not-so-drybrush coating over the whole thing. That is to say, enough paint on the brush to leave visible marks, but not wet enough that it runs into the cracks. It will really help to add some "life" to the wood.

I'll be using Tamiya acrylics, seeing as I have about 2 of every color here already. I've laid down a dark brown base already this afternoon - I guess I need to start messing with some drybrushing lighter colors here. Great tip, thanks bud!

Wow, that tip really worked! Pretty pleased with this so far! Still got some more to go...but I did dark brown base, orange, yellow, dragged a stuff bristled brush between the coats in the middle and then laid down some amber (actually more yellow, because I wanted it to look like old wood rather than new wood) over the top with the same brush. I'm still planning some more drybrushing, and a black wash to bring out the grain even more, and then some artist's pastels brushed in there too...but this is a GREAT start. Thanks for the tip Dave!! I'm thinking of airbrushing a little thinned black (like, super thinned so it's almost all clear) to dumb the color down and keep the depth and detail - it's a bit too orange for not, but I'm relatively pleased for a first attempt at this!

The thing about painting wood is that you can pretty much just going back and forth between lighter/darker brighter/duller colors until you get the effect that you're looking for.

Yeah, it's a fun technique to play with! Thanks for the tips bud! I want to try, when I mist some tinted clear to darken it, masking some of the panels seperately to get some different shades on the different planks of wood. It looks a bit too uniform so far, the way I've done it. But it's GREAT fun learning, even if it takes me a few goes

I got a bit stuck on what to do to make the rear end the right width - it was a bit too narrow but I didn't have any styrene rod of a big enough diameter to widen it up. I did some thinking for a couple of days, messed with looking at the caps on my GF's cosmetics and stuff to find something suitable...and then today I gave up and just looked for some model parts that might work. Turns out, I had them all in front of my all along! The Tijuana Taxi wheel backing plates (orange) fitted perfectly in the Raider's Coach wheel backs (grey), and then I just needed to glue them to the output hubs for the Beer Wagon chain drive: Wrked perfect, and got the rear width I wanted so the tyres didn't touch the body and weren't too close together Next job is to find my soldering iron, if I can...I've got some soldering to do here for the next part on my list!
