So, I had this pile of junk lying around... ...and the remains of a Red Baron... So I figured if I shortened the remains of the TT body and started piecing it back together... ...and removed the Red Baron body so I could use the frame... ...I could make something like this... I'm just messing with parts at the minute, but I kinda like the idea! And I needed to build a Model T for one of my Name Game names - and the Tijuana Taxi has TWO 'T's in it! π

Anyway, back to showrods...I decided to fabricate some new side panels for the body. It was so rough looking that I figured I'd rather just rework those areas than mess with sanding and filling it for days. Some rough shapes to get us started... Then some filler... ...then some sanding to get a nice radiused edge on the bottom of the cab ...and now I'm adding the raised door lines and a new trim line: The cowl needs some more filler - it was a little crumbly when I sanded it but the sides look WAY better I think. Next I've got to figure out how to connect the two pieces back together. More soon!

Slow progress, but a LITTLE progress anyway - I'm trying to get all the bodywork on this sucker put to bed because that's gonna be the hardest part of this build for sure... Getting there though - although I'm sure I'll cry inside a little when I get primer on it and see what REALLY needs to be done... I had a cool idea for an unusual engine too for this...time to do some parts-box rummaging here...

Several hours of rummaging later, here's what I'm thinking for the engine: I know what you're thinking - that's a Corvair, it should be in the back! Well, I saw a pic somewhere once of a T bucket or something similar with one of these in the front, and I've been wanting to try it ever since. Kinda cool I think! And it saves me trying to figure out a radiator too, which is one less thing to do...

Just a quick mock up, to get the day started... I think it needs more tyre in the back - might design something today

I haven't had an update on this one for a while because it's been a lot of fill, prime, sand, fill, prime, sand, fill, prime, sand...but it's getting there slowly! I'm away right now so that's slowing progress a touch, but I bought a few tools and supplies so I had something to mess with until I get back home. I'm pleased with how it looks so far though!

Ohhhhh, is that the rod with the Corvair engine in? I think that's the one that gave me the idea!

Thanks Scratch! Just figuring out a fuel tank for this thing today - the one from the Der Beetle Bus fits pretty nice on a Red Baron chassis! The bodywork is NEARLY done, I think. That took a LOT of filling and priming to get it straight and how I wanted it - bu its nearly ready for some actual color I think!

...took a LOT of filling and priming to get it straight... I'm not surprised, given the utter rubbish you started with! Looking good. I wonder if you should cut away that flat plate (part of the chassis) sticking up between the gas tank and the body?

Haha, yeah, it wasn't the best start for a build I was wondering about that extra bit on the chassis too...hmmmmmm
