According to the article it is "considered one of George Barris’ most iconic customs."
If you don't mind my saying I am not at all familiar with this car. With all the Barris creations that appeared as toys and model kits I'm curious to learn more about the Golden Sahara.

Barris takes credit for others work again. He claims to have invented Pearl paint, even though a Ford show car had it 2 years before he "invented" it along with Candy and Metal flake paint. Also took credit for designing and building all the systems including the self driving radar system.

This car is going to be auctioned off WITH NO RESERVE this Saturday,May 19th 2018 here in Indiana at the Mecum Auctions.It is being held at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis

Shoot I missed the auction. If I owned the car, I think I would leave it in the barnfind condition. (make is a safe road worthy car of course and drive the hell out of it.

The Golden Sahara sold at Mecum's Indianapolis Auction for $385,000....you DID read that right...It sold for three hundred eighty five Thousand dollars!!!!
