Currently on my table. I've never built a Digger before, mainly because I've never really seen one that the clam shell was not warped.
So we'll see where this one goes.... SO FAR

I bought two of the reissues and both were really warped to the point of no return ; I got lucky and found an original body and decals in a parts lot on Ebay . I'm looking forward to see where you go with this !

Here's a peek at the bodywork behind the scenes.
The evergreen sticking out from the wheel well is filling a small hole irregularity

So just an update of stuff that's been happening with a Better Digger.... First a simple pencil trace of the future cutsThe initial dremel cuts. It went along lovingly for the most part I was hoping to save the split grill at the very tip of the front but it was too much to ask. I may try to salvage some part of itThe almost complete dragster frame with engine after clear coatSo I'm gonna say I'm pleased so far with the body transformation and it's staying together with all the surgery and stitching upIt sits soooo much lower now in the front, I may just give up the idea of trying to save the grillBack to work.....

Looking good Paul, Ratrod (RIP john), did it up the same way. Turned out great too.

I really like what you are doing with this one, Paul. Changing the split body is a great upgrade. I'm looking forward to the finish.
The DIGGER in its original pyscedelic colors is one of my all time favorites. I have an original that I think I'll do the same way. The decals might be a bit messed up. but I'll get another set.

Really nice! Like the altitude adjustment. I would add a small chin spoiler from some flat plastic. . .like the bottom of the body.

Finishing up the bottom side. Just need a bit of filler.
The "canal" is intentionally offset because I repeatedly kept ripping off the relocated steering linkage. So hopefully that problem has been satisfied

Its really looking good ! I wish I had thought of cutting the body on mine ; it was a real pain to fill and sand out the seams after it was built and then mask off the glass and wheel openings to paint it !

Great idea Paul, it's coming along well. I've had one of these sitting in the stash for a while with a warped body, now I know how to get around the problem I might dig it out.
