Let's file this under cars I've actually owned. This is Bob. Bob LeCar.
I drove Bob back in the early 80s.
For a small guy, he proved fun to drive, could be parked anywhere, and was actually not bad in snow (he was my first front-wheel drive).
Alas, cars of his caliber were not built to last. After several transaxle replacements, some bondo, and an manifold pipe wrapped in a soda can and heat-hardening tape, he was traded in. Purchased for $1100, and given $1500 for him, sight unseen. The dealer probably made it up in some other way.
This Bob was built from an Italeri Renault R5 Alpine Rally kit, sans the wide fenders, fog lamps and rally wheels (they didn't fit under Bob's fenders, so they got replaced with a set from the 1:32 Lindberg Showrod kits). The original Bob also had a roof rack and a rear seat instead of roll bars, but, hey.... I also had to do up decals to match the original markings, and give him vanity plates.
I miss that guy.
As always, thanks for lookin'!

My son abandoned his Fiero for one of these things.
It had the most awful dashboard arrangement.
Sounds like Bob was a better deal than my sons.
His lasted about 3 months until he went back to a beetle.

One of our eldest son's first cars. It was quite old, but it was only needed to get to the yard where his 45 ton truck was parked!

I love it. I have never seen this car in any other color than forest green.

Thanks guys.
Bob definitely holds a special place in my driving memories. He was my commuter from my home in VA to the office in MD for two years (about 35 miles, one way). And, he successfully moved me from my bachelor place (including my small-ish dresser), and road-tripped to a wedding in RI with 4 adults and a five year old. He was as basic as you could get. I had to do a floor mounted cassette player and a jerry-rigged digital clock (mounted on 4 push-pins, pushed into the dash )
But, he was Bob.
Now, if I could only find a kit version of a '71 VW 411!
