I never was a fan of the Fire Iron , the dark looking cover photo, plus all that gold plating against the red and the spoked front wheels just didn't do it for me. The Fire Cracker looked better with the steamroller tires and I jumped at the chance to buy a supposed good rebuilder from a guy on a Facebook model site. Well I got it, but it was far from good, and far from a rebuilder too. Luckily Todd (Count Dragula) had a Fire Iron and we struck a deal. I planned on painting it red until I put a flat white as a primer, and I thought it looked good in white. Because there was so much gold plating , I painted some of the plated parts with chrome Alclad ; other plated parts were hit with Dullcote to take the shine out, and other parts were swapped from the junk Fire Cracker ,which had faded gold plating , which off set the new plated parts. The seat was painted with some old watercolor paint which gave it a look of a faded red leather. The decals had darkened edges, which seems to be a common issue with this particular kit, so I didn't clearcoat it in case it gets reissued again . I hope you guys like it !

Great job Don ! I like it in white and also the Dullcote on the brass plating really gives it an antique sort of look , very cool ! I've got an unbuilt Firecracker and like you I've been thinking of different colors instead of red , maybe a bright yellow .
