First, I want to thank Scott (Flounder) for publishing his Amazing Moon Mixer in Model Cars Magazine, and here. As I told him, he reminded me of a project I had on the list quite a while ago, when we both got Richard Carroll tires cast by Joe. I never got around to it. After he did his Moon Mixer, I figured I might as well get this off the list while it was on my mind, not let it fall to the wayside with time again.
I want to make it clear, I'm not copying Scott. This was my own project, pretty delayed- and I based mine on the T-Bone Stake, not the Mixer. We both just used those great tires from Joe. Also, I can't compare my project to Scott's- mine is just boxstock, with the tires. Scott is an awesome builder, and the master of scratch building and incredible detail. Just like years ago I built a Scorpion, boxstock, then he built his great scratch and detailed Scorpion- a great build! No comparison here- I'm just glad to get this off the To Do List.
This not the first build I've used the Richard Carroll tires, I think 3 before this. There will be others- I got something like a dozen or more sets from Joe.
Boxstock, with the exception of those great Richard Carroll tires from Joe (thanks again Buddy!). Paint is Tamiya Racing Blue with gold pin striping. You can build it with the stakes, or the pickup box with a tonneau cover- which I prefer. Chrome wheels made by combining 2 sets of deep chrome wheels. I did end up building a rear stabilizer bar to help with those big tires.
Thanks again Scott, for your great build, and the big reminder!
And last, but certainly NOT least, a huge thanks to Todd (Count Dragula) for saving my butt; for when I opened the mint kit, I discovered the fenders were twisted beyond repair, possibly sending this kit to the parts bin. I reached out here, and Todd came through with a trade; he sent me some used but perfectly serviceable fenders- a little sanding, and bingo! I was in business! Thanks Todd!
Here are some pics of my past "Richard Carroll" projects, for those who haven't seen them. I do not detail my builds, so no wiring, fuel lines, etc.
This is one I call The Escape Pod, kitbashing parts of the Double Dragster, fenders from the Ice Cream Truck, and the tires.
(for those that notice, the distributors had been left on the bench, and were added after the pics were taken)
This one is the Tom & Tom, made by combining Tom Daniel's Tarantula with Tommy Ivo's 4 engine dragster.
This one is the Surf Woody, roadster version, with the body molded into one piece, and exhausts made from ink pen tubes.
As I said, there are more "Richard Carroll" projects on the list, when I get to them!
