The Flying Dutchman F/C This is both a showrod in the showroom, and a real 1:1 funny car. A mint kit from my stash, but the decals were iffy. I had to replace all the tires- the fronts were dried out, stiff and even somewhat brittle- don't see that very often; the slicks were a little deformed. Glass was ok. The multi-piece body was a P.I.A., a lot of filling and sanding like I was making an AWB conversion! Redid the blower scoop with Revell Chrome spray. In different pictures the 1:1 seems like either a shade of green or blue, I don't know if that's lighting or actually different paint during it's racing life. The MPC model boxart looks like something inbetween, so I went for both trying to emulate the 1:1 car and doing a close to boxart build. Paint is a silver base, then a mixture of Tamiya Light Pearl Blue and Pearl Green, Wet Look clear. I used what I could of the original decals that didn't fall apart, and some replacement decals (that didn't come with every one needed) and some of the same sponsor, but Slixx decals. I used only one substitute sponsor, so that was good. The white stripe decals were no good, so those I did with Tamiya Pure White paint. Tail light done with Sharpies. It's about as close as I can come to boxart and replica. I think it's just such a cool car, that I HAD to get around to building one. Comments welcome!

I think you did a fantastic job with this build. I like the color choice for the body.

Spectacular work again! I love it. Inspiring. Such a great-looking rod. Any knowledge of where the 1-1 rod is today?

I looked through all the news I could find about it; the last thing heard is that some people claim to have seen the body at a swap meet in St. Louis around 2018. So, nothing verifiable. It seems to me it's such a shame so many race and show cars end up abandoned/forgotten/left to rot and rust somewhere.

Great build dave great paint and overall detail and finish So good you are building these rare kits better than sitting on the shelf These kits are made to be built and not collected

Once we check out of inhabiting this rock, it's very unlikely that our heirs will build them. So keep 'em coming gang!

Very cool. I really like the build up story. The model is excellent as it sits.

I was just kind of touching on this subject on my “hey everyone”post about enjoying stuff and not letting it sit around till it’s to late. Beautiful build. I love the color.

When I first posted this, I also posted the pics and info on the 1:1 from that article on the site that I manage- I just didn't post that here. Thanks for adding that so others can see it.
