Man, painting bamboo ain't easy! Well, I spent several hours over the course of the weekend fiddling with the paint on the Tiki bike. I'm using the Autoair paints, which are nice to work with, but getting the colors the way I wanted turned out to be a bit of a headache. The whole thing was basecoated white, then I started out with flame yellow and started adding browns and a very light green. It sat all day Saturday, and I just didn't like it, so back to the paint mixing, and I completely reshot it last night in a custom mixed light brown, leaving some of the light green and darker browns, and then hit it with natural brown in the joints. It's finally where I want it as far as the frame and tank, now I have to go back with an ultra-fine brush and add in the joints and some details. I did the fenders last night in browns and greens, but after looking at it, and having my wife put in her 2 cents worth, the decision was made to eliminate the green completely, so back to the airbrush again to hit it all with a light brown similar to the frame. When painted, the fenders look more like weathered palm fronds or tree bark than anything, so the green is out of place. (the thatch roofs on huts using these fronds are light brown, ie; Gilligans Island) All trial and error, and all subject to change! I also managed to get paint on all of the interior components of the 65' Lincoln, and the Lil'r Coffin. the coffin is coming along, and should be done soon. I've got the motor down here at my office today to drill out the injectors and the holes for plug lines and distrib. I did the interior and roof panels in Chameleon Purple. It changes from a pink to green to purple in the sunlight! Looks pretty wild! I was hoping to get further along on everything so I could start putting something together this week! These things we do in search of personal satisfaction.... ;D
