Well, it's coming along slowly but surely. Geez, after seeing Burkes bike, I almost don't want to post it!! God is he talented!! I've been lucky, as Paul has mentored me along and encouraged me to try new things, so here it is: This is where I started Sat. morn, with yellow over the white basecoat..... Next, I started working in the browns, then some really light greens....... Many hours later, along the course of Sat. and Sunday, I kept going at it with more shades of browns until I got the colors I wanted. It was indeed a learning project. After I got all the color coats the way I liked it, I wrapped each joint with some heavy thread to simulate it being bound together. I did a "cane" pattern on the seat by blowing thru some plastic mesh I had. I used alot of shades of color on the tiki. It's all very flat right now, but when I am done with all the paintwork, its all getting buried in clear. The fenders are still a bit dark, so I may squirt some more light brown shades over them. there is actually 5 shades of brown on them, but it's hard to tell.... I've been after it with a super fine paint brush tonight, adding the "joint" connections on the bamboo framework, some shadows and lines to give it character and bring some depth to it all. This has turned into quite a time consuming project.... I still have to do the wheel center to match as well, but it may be a few days before I get to it again......

Someone will have to build this in 1:1 scale. It's brilliant Tim!

Tim,
Instead of breaking out the airbrush to lighten the fenders, I suggest dry-brushing a lighter tone over those fenders - it should look great!

That Is FANTASTIC TIM !!!! .....It 's really coming along, ( ....& Tim, I just can't help but to wonder, when you started "hacking" on those fender's how many guys probably thought ....well........thought you were "Losing It" ??!!! ( except me, of course !!! !! ) ...Now ; seeing it at this Stage...WOW !!! .... A couple things though, I do agree with Scurvy, I'd Suggest Dry Brushing those fenders instead of airbrushing,...and also, I'd suggest either using That decal, Dan Suggested Or Using That White plastic Drywall repair patch Screen stuff, ( either the squares or on the roll ) .....as a stencil for the seat; (I think it'll give you a finer woven pattern result, it already comes with a low tack adhesive on the back) ..It'll be dead on scale-wise too. ;D

Thanks guys. Scurv, your right, and I've been handbrushing alot of this stuff on the details. The more I look at it, the darker finish kind of grows on me. I just thought a few more airbrushed hilites and then go back and drybrush it all would set it off right. I washed down the whole frame and used a .0000 brush to fine in the joints, etc; I'm glad you guys like it, all of you are my inspiration to plow on when I get discouraged! Thanks for your kind words and encouragement!!

Tim!!!! That is really totally frickin' cool!!!! I was starting to get burned out with these chopper kits because basically the four kits are pretty much the same thing. (like building a stock car model--just different decals) Then you go and build something like this and the detroithammer hammer builds the cc rider and give new life to these kits!!!!! Just my two cents on your fenders. I thing they look great now and agree with the other guys on some lighter color dry brushing, but I also suggests using a thinned down wash of dark brown or black to flow into the recessed grooves of the leaves on the fenders to bring out the details? You have definitely raised the bar on this one!!!!!!!.................Fred

Tim, that build is going so cool, I had to take a minute to show my Mom. She has been an inspiration to me in moving towards my goal of having a shop and I love to share everything that really gets me going and that build is definitely one of them. She loved it and just couldn't believe how detailed you were getting on all the little things. So ma says nice too! Just wanted to let you know.
