ok.ok.. I know i can't keep up with you guys and your wonderful creations but I need a little help on my present build up .. I've got a friend (yes 1 friend !) that is an absolute saint .. His name is Harold and he's always making sure EVERYONE ELSE'S needs are met before himself whether it be family or friends. He owns several 1:1's and one of his favorites is his '55 Chevy.. I recently picked up a Snap Draggin' '55 kit and have the paintwork done. It's done in Special Olympic white over HOK Orion Silver base/ Radiant Sunset Red II Kandy and cleared .. DkalD is whipping me up some "Hotrod Harold" 8-)decals and here's where I need everyone's input .. What would be a good way to detail out the hard plastic tires? Remember these tires are distorted out of round and are wrinkle walls on the back .. I wish I was handy with a brush, but that's not gonna happen ... Idea's please ? Chuck D.

I think the tires look fine right out of the box. Maybe a coat of flat black to make them look weathered?

sand the tread area down on the tires so they are rough...320 or 220 should do the trick. Leave the sidewalls shiny. I did that on my Digger build and it looked nice.

Decal them also ,just use flat black apply, then use flat clear

Decal 'em ?? with what Don ? Chuck D. I would spray the tires flat black, then dry-brush them with some flat black with a drop or two of flat white in it - it will pick up the raised areas and leave the recesses between the wrinkles, etc. in shadow. Check out the model railroad section for dry-transfer letters in small sizes and a multitude of fonts (typestyles). You could make the tires say just about anything on the sidewalls - or you could have Decal Dan throw some tire letter decals to lay on there on the same sheet as your "Hotrod Harold" logos.

Excellent Idea Scurvy .. I'll do a little investigating in the railroad section and also brainstorm a name or two for a cool tire name for DkalD ...
Thanks for the paint tips ! Chuck D.

You could put this on the back tires: "Big Ol' Tirez" (spelled just like that), and "L'il Ol' Tirez" up front, if you can fit that on the front tires. Just a suggestion.
