... was this really a 4 day weekend???!! Could have fooled me!!! (I just know these next 3 days will feel like 6 by Friday!)
Chassis is nearly finished ... the wheels aren't attached yet, just put them on for the sake of the picture. Fire extinguisher isn't finished yet -- needs more painting & detail work, plus it sits straight up on the steering column, not hanging down. The chassis was fighting me to the end ... the pins on both rear brakes broke off when trying to put the tubing on, so that meant taking everything apart back there, drilling out holes in both brakes, sticking some super glue in each hole and then sliding the brake line tubes in. The throttle linkage is too short!!! A simple mod (making the part two pieces instead of one) solved that problem.
The paint pen I've used for lettering on tires was no good, and checking the paint stash I found out I had no acrylic flat white. Ran to the LHS and picked up some Tamiya Flat White, and was pretty amazed at how good it looks on the tires, and how it paints on great, with no black showing through.
Lots of little chrome parts meant lots of little touch-up spots from where the parts were cut off from the sprues ... touched it up with Humbrol Gloss Black (with those crazy lids ... caps are so much better!) and then brushed on some Alclad Chrome. The results are usually nearly invisible, in that you can't tell there was a big honking bare white plastic spot there.
I used BMF for around the windows, but not happy with that ... even tho that was a couple of hours work (at least), I'll probably just take it all off and use silver paint ... although the BMF on the windshield itself I'll probably keep.
Hopefully I'll have this one completely done by or during the New Year's Weekend ... I love these big Revell funny cars, but man, whew ... after this, I think I'll work on something a little less complicated to relax!
