I know....It's about time I build a Showrod.... ;D I picked up a built up Honest Engine on eBay awhile back, and this weekend I started the process of getting it apart. Most of the gold chrome parts came off pretty easy, and after putting the rest of the kit in the freezer for a few hours I was able to very carefully get the rest of the kit apart without any damage. The wheels & axles, and the front cattle gaurd where glued on with at least one tube of glue, but I finally got them off with a razor saw. I have been filling, sanding and polishing most of the weekend, and am about to start reassembly. I am missing one of the lower headers & the steam whistle that mounts on the back of the blower (any help here?) I think I'm going to alclad the wheels and blower with polished aluminum, and use chrome alclad on the rest of the gold chrome parts just to give it more of a hotrod look. I'll keep ya post on progress. And a big thanks to Charlie for scanning the instruction sheet for me!!!

Well last nite I started reassembling this thing, and spent a few more hours getting all the wheels cleaned up (all 12 of 'em) I also ordered a new set of decals from the Digs, and got the paint. Now for the bad news....today at work, being in a hurry, and maybe a little lack of sleep (as usual) my left thumb collided with the blade on my table saw at work!!! Not entirely my fault....I hate safety gaurds on these things anyway, and when they are old, and cobbled together like this one, I think they are even more dangerous. Anyway, I didn't lose my thumb, but it got chewed up pretty good in the brief few seconds it was in the blade. So I don't think I'll be doing any model building for a week at least, but I'll be back!!! LOL!!!

Not entirely my fault....I hate safety guards on these things anyway, and when they are old, and cobbled together like this one, I think they are even more dangerous. Anyway, I didn't lose my thumb, but it got chewed up pretty good in the brief few seconds it was in the blade. So I don't think I'll be doing any model building for a week at least, but I'll be back!!! LOL!!! Sorry to hear about the accident, it really sucks when you mess up your thumb or index finger. Hard to do any building without those in service. We don't realize how much we need them till we can't use them. Check your PMs' please.

Sorry to hear about the finger. I ran one of my optical screwdrivers almost all the way thru a few months back, and it hurt like hell and put me out for a few weeks too! Hope you heal fast!! As for the Honest Engine, it's one of my favorite TD kits! I like trains anyways, and it's just too kool when finished!! Be sure to post your finished build!!
