... mainly, trying to figure out how to get the body to fit to the rest of the car! The basis of the this kit is the Granny's Hot Rod and that had some fit problems, but looks like this will be worse! This will be a weekend project to figure out ... may have to play with the firewall or even the body itself to get it to fit properly. Right now the firewall pretty much brushes right up against the rear of the engine, and the hood & panels will not sit right. Hopefully it'll be an easy enough fix without resorting to major file work. Other than that, still mostly doing a lot of painting work on this. The ship will be painted in different colors ... I've started on some of the other colors already, but mostly what you see is the GM Maroon (around 4 coats of color, then 2 coats of clear). The hood I've changed by cutting out the piece that divides the holes for the stacks, so now its one big opening. The hood is glued to the panels -- I didn't want to bother having a hood that can be removed to look at the engine. After the body situation is figured out, the rest of this should be pretty simple, as its just painting and some minor assemblies (mast, sails, little things that go on top of the deck) -- including the skeleton driver, but I've got something in mind for him as well!

Yep, that does look good indeed...... Even though rereleased not long ago, its not often we see a new Jolly Rodger. Maybe I should start mine soon..... Nah, gotta finish up some of the LOOONG overdue, and close to finish projects first. Looking foreward to seeing the body on the frame....

GB Barten Rattlecan -- its GM Honduras Maroon, one of the Testors 2-part lacquer paints. This is the first time I've used it on a real build, instead of experimenting. I've read & heard so much about these paints, on forums & at clubs, I just had to try it. I originally planned to use this on the Revell 1/12th '69 Camaro, but the Jolly Rodger gets the first try-out! I warmed up the paint in a little bowl, and applied about 4 mist coats, and then 3 wet coats. That was followed by 2 wet coats of the Testors Gloss Clear, which gives it the wet look -- the paint itself looked good enough on its own. I didn't even do any polishing! This stuff laid right down perfectly. And the color dries pretty fast too. And as someone warned me, the fumes from this paint are POTENT. This color has a nice metallic look, which doesn't come out very well in the photos, and it looks more red in the photos as well. The car still looks pretty good in the photos, but in person that color really pops!!!

Here's another photo ... I took this with a new digital camera that came today in the mail. I've had great luck in the past with refurbished stuff, but not this time ... the Electronic View Finder doesn't work. But at least everything else works ... its a Kodak Easyshare DX 6490, 4.0 MP and 10x Optical zoom. The photo isn't as contrasty as the other, and its sharper as well (our old digital is 3.1 MP). But now just waiting for the authorization number to return the camera. The seats really look nice in this picture ... just Tamiya Flat Red acrylic with Tamiya Flat Black on the sides, and Testors Gold for the buttons. The Testors Honduras Maroon will be used on some of the ship body, but the panels for the siding will be painted different colors ... still working on some ideas for those (was thinking red on the bottom, black cherry for the middle, and black on the top, then coated with gloss -- along with gold trim).
