I got an old built-up Prowler trailer from Sam Freeman yesterday with every intention of building a chariot-style showrod, but as I looked at it, I thought maybe I should do something like a small-scale Big Gasser-style COE with it. Can't decide which way around is going to work better as a cab though...

I set a set of wheels/tires from the "Scavenger" Datsun pickup under those fenders... I think with different tires and the chrome stripped off them, I like it. I think it's going to be a box van or a tow truck - I'm going to see how it'll look with the box from one of Herb Deeks' '50s aero trailers behind it.

WOW Dave...That is a GREAT idea.. I've been pondering a way make a rounded nose section for an idea I've got... Don't tell no one.. A showrod Trolley..(isn't it Toonville Trolley?) You've just sparked my imagination..

I took the easy route on the COE and bought the Jada Toys flatbed version. Have you seen this thing? It's really nicely done in 1/24 scale!

The Chevy-esque COE is pretty nice - they've now added a Chrysler Airflow ramp truck and a VW transporter-based COE ramp truck too.

Hey Dave, I vote for the first version! The roof and windshield curving down in front of the wheels is a great look. I don't know what you are planning for an engine and chasis layout, but how about a ferarri boxer or corvair flat six mounted mid-ships behind the cab. That way the sucker can sit way low and you can fit any kind of bed you like above the engine. Oh yeah, lots of straight pipes sticking out the side too! Cowabunga dude!! Mike

Mike Yeah, I'm kinda partial to the first version as well. The turn signals in the fenders and the license/reverse lights will make nice headlights, I think. Wow - hadn't started to even consider a powerplant yet. Maybe I'll try to find a Ferrari F-1 boxer and trans/rear suspension. If I can't come up with that, I'll do a Top Fuel motor with the injector scoop up over the top of the cab. I was considering a ramp truck today.

So I think I found my wheels and front tires... now to find some rear tires. And sometimes you just have to chill out and let the inspiration come to you... Just hazelnut-flavored tobacco molasses in the bowl... I SWEAR!
