I have never built this model fresh out of the box. I did own a sealed 1974 version but sold it in Jan or Feb of this year on ebay. (I do not have the heart to open sealed collector kits and then build them) I do and have built several rommels rod but they are all rebuilds of ebay glue bombs and are usually a night mare to do!! My buddy who deals in diecast and models as a side business made a beautiful find last weekend and called to tell me that he had been contacted by an individual that wanted to sell him some models. Long story short--he purchased about a dozen or so models from the guy as a lot. Most of the models were sealed and were mainly stock items (corvettes, camaros, barracudas, etc) all from around the 70's but there was a Rommel's Rod. Turns out the kit is/had been opened, but was pristine inside with origional decals, instructions, and just perfect shining chrome and clear glass!!! This was the 1969 version without TD's face on the front. I started some sub-assemblies tonight and I have a little more appreciation for this kit. Although not flashy/ or really hot-roddy? it is a nice kit to build, but it is a bear of a kit to rebuild from a glue bomb!!!

Man, what a great find. Just goes to show you theres still some deals to be found out there and lot's of killer boxed kits still stashed away in peoples basements and closets! I'm sure you'll do the kit justice with your great weathering and detailing.

Hi Fred
Just wanted to say - l think it's great that something like this can still happen now and then, and that you should enjoy this!! Also don't forget that (hold your breath)Moebius will /might redo T.D's Rommel's Rod and if they do the price on this will surely drop not to mention more will show up.So enjoy Keith

Hmm....If/ when the kit is reissued, I don't think it'll affect the pricing on the originals as much as everyone is anticipating & speculating ....by the sounds of it; it'll be different in a few ways, And "True Collectors" Still will Want The Real Thing...besides; that's the Beauty of building them....Not having to worry about it !!!!...( Right Fred ??!!!!) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
