While the rommel's rod is hold until I can purchase some Tamiya TS-3 Desert Tan. I thought I had two cans on the shelf, but when I went to use them one was empty and the other was only a 1/2 full !!(Michael!!!!!!) I started on the Bad Medicine (Thanks Rick ;D) today as the weather was perfect for painting. After priming and sanding the body I sprayed on some Dupli-Color High Performance Metal Specks Red. Followed by 6 to 7 coats of clear. I then sprayed all the skeleton parts flat black and then dry-brushed on whiteland some very light grays to bring out the detalis. I then sprayed the interior panel flat black and then dry-brushed white followed by a very light purple. I also used a anodized orange/gold made by Dupli-color and sprayed that directly over the chrome.

That's coming along nicely. Not to take away from your effort, but, I've been trying to find a way to get a polished brass finish. The "gold anodized" finish is fine but I want a true brass look. You or anyone know a product or ? to get that? And "anodized"or otherwise do those finishes work over Alclad since clear coating Alclad is a no-no?

I wonder if a place like Michaels would have something for that? I was thinking they did, but that might be their gold leaf foil kit. Hmm ... one more thing to do this weekend! update: I may have been thinking of these: www.michaels.com/art/online/projectsheet?pid=e04890Not sure if you can get a polished look with these ... could be interesting to use for other projects, tho.

Ive seen other methods for metallic finishes. But, no good pics or visual references. And, no info on "first hand" experiences. Various mfg. offer "pastes" you apply and polish. Seems that would be thick and hide details. I like a little touch of brass on showrods and street rods ( like my "Little Something" C-Cab). I'll check Micheals. Foiling works in some areas but you can get wrinkles in curves etc .

Hey rwildone---although it is tough to see from the picture, the chrome that I sprayed with dupli-color metalcast anodized surface color system is actually more brass than gold. The color is called orange anodized and I got it in a spray can at wally world or any advanced auto store for about $7. I only sprayed light coats, but you could spray more coats until desired effect. Just spray it over the chrome in light coats on a nice sunny warm day in direct sunlight. I never bothered to clear it because I was very happy with the results. Give it a try on some scrape chrome, for $7, not to much to loose. Let me know how you make out with it .

My "chrome" will be Alclad but I might try that. I want to finish that soon and not wait forever to find something. I really don't want to pack it of to Chrome Tech to have "gold" plated either.

Did a quik jump to The Detailer site. Found this picture: thedetailer.net/images/parts/mag_lrg.jpgexcept for the orange reflection I think this is a good "brass" look. Best I've seen so far. What do you guys think?

Dupli-color also makes a silver metalizer to base coat non-chrome pieces prior to spraying the colored anodizer. I have not tried this personally yet, so I can't say how it comes out. I have never tried it over aclad either.
