So it was time to come up with the headers. I was orginally planning on using a modified set of Vending machine headers, but decided to replicate to Uncertian T headers. I used alumimum rod and bent up one side. They looked too skinny. Boo hoo!!!! Hosted on Fotki

So I checked out different types of materials. Brass rod - too heavy and hard to bend. Plastic rod - Doesn't hold a bend. Aluminum tube with brass rod inside - Breaks. Hosted on FotkiPlab B - Cut the bends from a Lil' Gasser header and use those. Only wasted a couple hours. Hosted on FotkiOh for those guys lucky enough to be able to restore or build an Uncertain T - The headers go into the heads through U shaped holes. I have seen builds with them stuck to the head.

You consider using aluminum welding rod? Pretty easy to bend and polishes nice - might try gluing the ends together at the "end" of the headers and bending each back toward the head before trimming to length.

I solved my problems when I built the "Ghoul Bus" with silver solder. You can buy a roll in the right diameter and easily bend it to shape. It can be polished and clear coated when finished! Try it!

Seeing that shot of the Sex Machine, does anyone know whatever happened to George Vretta? I think he got really p'd off after that one contest? That build is just outstanding. I wonder what he is doing now?

Hey Flounder, they make a small metal rod that is plastic coated that will slide inside the plastic tube. When you bend your tubing it will stay the shape you want. Just start off with the metal rod shorter than the finished product so it doesn't show at the exposed end of the tube.
I don't remember where I got it but I have a small hand held tubing bender made from blue anodized aluminum hex that has slots milled into it for two different sized tubing that works great for the plastic stuff.

I don't know if this will help you but if you anneal your brass rod, it will bend much easier. You will still have to contend with weight issues. Or use the headers in the AMT parts pack as I did...

This May Or May Not Help, But in alot of cases; I just use a Pair of headers that exist...just as a Form/pattern, for my solder...I just place the solder over each pipe & follow the form, And then make it longer, or whatever....this way...each side is perfect , the spacing, angle; everything!...sorta like a jig?!
