Ok, you have been asking for a picture of the progress of the Thunder Chargers. My camera stinks so this is the only shot I have. You can see the difference between the stock Charger and what Mr. Barris did to it. The stock version is just painted with Testors bright white while the TC is Tamaya pearl white. Not necessary the correct color but looked good. I used a scan of the decals and a good paint program on my computer to produce the decals. I simply printed them out on clear decal paper and used cheap clear to finish. I was on my way to two ok/decent looking models ;D ;D i154.photobucket.com/albums/s266/barrisfan/SUNP0400.jpg The bad news is, after i took the picture, I was trying to repair a spot on the rear of the TC and it (on spot)spiderwebed on me. I figured that I could just mask off the sides and re-paint the top. Well as soon as I started spraying the filler primer, the whole stinking thing spiderwebed. Needless to say the car had to go for a swim in the purple pond. I still have two weeks to finish the cars so I should be ok. It's frustrating but all part of the hobby

Ok gang, I need your help. Since I pretty much had to start over with the TC build, should I paint it Bright White or go with the pearl white like I had before? I thought it looked pretty good in pearl and my wife really liked it but all of the pictures I have ever seen show it in just plain white.
Give me your opinions ASAP because it's just about ready for the first base coat

I'd say do what you want. The Barris TV and M ovie Cars book says it was painted "twenty coats of acrylic lacquer using gold Murano pearl, layered over with ten coats of Metalflake white, along with some decorative side panel fade-aways in Candy Apple red and purple. After the movie aws completed, a new set of wild, psychedelic graphics in yellow and black were added, along with striking blue and purple rear quarter panel feather graphics."

Then it looks like it will get a pearl white paint job. I liked the looks of it. My wife liked the way it looked so... It just made the decals pop. I just have to be real careful this time ;D. I do not want to have to start over again
I will try and post pics as soon as I can. Gotta get the 1:1 Pinto running better than it is so I will be working on that this weekend

Thats the movie paint. First time I've seen it in color. Anyway good luck on the new paint. Have you figured out what caused the spider webbing?

Thats the movie paint. First time I've seen it in color. Anyway good luck on the new paint. Have you figured out what caused the spider webbing? I am thinking it was a mix of different paints. From cheap Wal-Mart clear (remember, these cars get beat up over the show season so they are not perferct) to Tamyia pearl. I just dont think they play well together. ;D Check out www.sd455.com/movie.htm for a lot of cool old posters and pics of cars. THANKS FOR THE HELP

Those pictures look like fades of red and blue. Not red and purple. I wondered where one might find that white metalflake! Pearl white is close enough for me.

ok, I have pretty much decided that this car is cursed. I bought a brand new car of filler primer to cover some of the smaller scratches. As i as laying down a coat, the sprayer stopped working so I switched nozels. In the prosess of doing that the whole can pretty much blew up. I tried putting a different nozel on it but it kept spewing. I took advantage of this and put a pretty heavy coat on the car but I now have primer all over my spray booth and surounding area. My hands makes it look like I am a huffer. Oh well, I will simply move on, clean the area up and try and get this stinking thing done ;D. It should say Christine

Yah, been there, done that. I've had what seemed to be "cursed" builds, make you just want to throw the thing against the wall!

ok gang, the kit you will most cetainly want to use for the chassis and interior/glass is the AMT Buyers Choice Street Machine. It is the correct match ;D. The kit is a piece of junk and I would ceratinly not recommend it for a out of box builder but it will be a good (not great)donor for the TC. I am just happy it came today If I do not have anymore setbacks, I should have this one done this week. (now I have cursed it and myself). it will not be detailed too much (missing the engine ;D ) but at least it will be ready for Volo. As long as Mr. Barris does not pick it up, I should be OK. I will try and get some pics of the two together

OK another update as I go along. You will need to use a different set of tires to complete the build. The ones from the Revell kit should work just fine but I chose to go with a set from my parts boxes. The tires from the AMT kit will not work. The rest of the chassis is a perfect fit While on that issue, when doing prep work on the body before primer and paint, you will need to thin down the rear fender area so that the tires will fit. Another tip is that you can use the clear red tail lights from the AMT kit as well as the chrome insert for the tail lights. (I should have waited, oh well) Other than that, Joe did a GREAT job on the stuff to make a TC. I am happy ( ;D ;D ;D ;D )as all heck to finally have one

I am going to post this here and in the other section. THE THUNDER CHARGER IS DONE!!!! It's far from a contest build but will be great for the show circuit. I left out little things like say the engine ;D. from three to five feet away it looks good but up close, well ;D. The rear spoiler kinda sagged a little bit probably from me holding in the wrong spot but I am not chancing doing more damage to try and fix it now. I will try and get some pictures up of both the complete stock version and the TC. A summary would be to use the following for completion: Joe's wonderful resin kit. The AMT Buyers Choice Dodge Charger Street Machine for the interior, glass, tail lights and tail light insert (you can use the one that Joe sends as well) plus the chassis. Make sure you put you "patients" cap on so that you dont make the same mistakes I did and have fun.

The camera takes great shots from 3' or more away butr SUCKS up close. It still beats having to use so much film but that is what I will use next weekend. I can't complain for what I paid for the camera. I think it was something like 45 or 50.oo at Wally World plus another 25 for the memory card. I get great shots of 1:1 cars (unless I try and do close ups) Anyway.....

Does the camera have a macro setting maybe?
