(Edited post!)I decided that first post of mine, from yesterday, was way too wordy and nerdy -- so I started over. I'll simply say this is a "for fun" project; it's based on a Polar Lights "Manglia"; and here are two pics from the second day's work: I also took a few other early-progress pics (and will continue to, as things progress.) You can see those other pics here: s181.photobucket.com/albums/x42/Wardster_builds/Cartoon-Salt-Flats-Rat-Rod/Thanks for lookin'! -- Wardster --

That's awesome! I'll be very interested to see how you finish this one out. You going to use baking soda to replicate salt spray?

(Edited post.)That's awesome! I'll be very interested to see how you finish this one out. You going to use baking soda to replicate salt spray? I hadn't thought of it, to be honest. Is there a technique for using baking soda in that way? If so, I'm ignorant of it. Care to fill me in? I'm still trying to figure out what I'm going to do for tires and wheels. (But will likely go with a tall / skinny old school theme 1950's-ish, overall.) If I can't find pre-made tires that will match the body, proportionally, I may experiment with some rubber o-rings or slip-joint washers, or possibly (up front) electrical wiring insulation. Something like: I am thinking ahead to the paint job, and have some ideas there -- I love what I'm seeing here, from you guys! -- but of course I still have bodywork to do, before I get to that point. (Part of the reason for the shape of the hood scoop was to break up the "mail slot" front window; to make it even less usable. The orange bits look almost like a cartoon skull, when seen from straight on ... so I intentionally made sort of nostril slits for it.) I'll probably take a break from this project, though, and work on the Cartoon Caddy project again for a bit ... that one's a gift, due on a buddy's birthday. (And because I almost always do multiple projects at once. I tend to put one down when I'm either tired of it, or when I need a break to think the next steps through.) Thanks much for the kinds words, guys! I'm hugely inspired by what you folks are doing with your build-ups and paint jobs! :-)
