depends on how you want to do it.
if cheap and easy, get the ghostbusters ecto 1 by polar lights, it is not 100% correct for a hearse, some reworking has to be done, $15 - $20 for the kit
then there's a resin body by jimmy flintstone, you use the body with the ghostbusters kit, and it is pretty cool $15 - $30 for the resin body
now if you want to go the Johan route, this is where it gets expensive
the kit is hard to find, not too many people want to give it up, the kit sells on ebay anywhere from $50 and up unbuilt,
Build ups $30 and up depending on how complete they are,
The Johan cadillac ambulance shares the same chassis as the heavenly hearse, but the body and interior are the ambulance style, it can be converted, this kit sells anywhere between $25 and up
I am building a panel truck hearse, similar to a real one in Monticello IN
now if you need Landau irons, I might have a spare set.
take care and happy holidays George

I can tell you the JO-HAN kits are up there. picked up the Heavenly Hearse for just under $80 sealed and the Fire Rescue Ambulance for just under $40 sealed. You may be able to get a deal right now on the bay as it is Christmas time.

$60 for the polar lights ghostbuster? ?...........Somebody got ripped!.......check your online mail order model dealers, Len @ Fantastic Plastic had them at the last model show about month ago $10 each, Tower Hobby has them, Model Roundup, etc.........do not go by ebay prices.......I am always leary of a high ebay bid because you never know if the actual money transaction took place of if some jerk just ran the bid up and then didn't pay. I still see the ghostbuster kits every now and then in some small independently owned store (like sports/card stores, etc) when we go shopping somewhere new or different. If the ghostbuster kit is getting that much then the Johan Kits would triple in price!

Hey Fred: No kidding, the Polar lights kit is usually around $15.00 I know the amt version is nuts, I seen a sealed one on ebay close at $90.00, why? the polar lights kit is cheap, just like Fred said, I have seen them on ebay with a buy it now for $15 and up Great Models has them for $16.95 so whoever asked a lot for them is insane. the only ones that are expensive is the AMT kit for the Ecto 1 the Johan kits are really expensive because they are no longer being produced, they stopped making it in the 80's, and each issue was different, one version had a coffin and coffin table, the next one just a coffin table, and then no coffin table, something like that, also the interior on the last issue didn't have the rollers on the floor, looks like the interior from the ambulance was used.

The original issue Jo-Han hearse includes a casket and a church truck. After that it was the Heavenly Hearse issue, with no casket or church truck.... I've got 2 caskets, but I can't find a church truck. I'd like to make resin copies of the caskets, but I don't have an idea on how to do that.... At the end of the run for the Heavenly Hearse, they pretty much threw in whatever they had handy.... I have the interior for the ambulance that came in a sealed HH, and 2 sets of decals to a whole other kit.... Go figure....

dual axle trucks, hasn't been done in a while from what I can remember, the mpc 70 or 72? pickup had a dual axle option for the ramp carrier option, then they reissued the car ramp, they neglected to include the axle so a lot of modelers made their own,
see the amt and polar lights ecto 2 kits are sort of like a promo kit, the chassis is all one piece with the axles molded in, so you would have to figure out if you want to leave the existing rear axle where it is and add to it, or chop it out and add two new rear axles
it can be done, almost anything can be done to a model if you put your mind to it, it takes time and patience,
