thanks paul. marbelizing is so easy to do, and it gives a more dramatic effect than plain old solid color stripes.

That has got to be one of the nicest builds of this kit I've ever seen! Great Paint! thanks for the compliment dave. this kit is so simple, not too many parts to it. this is only the second one of these that i have ever built. the first one i did was the yellow "street freak" version...and i didn't paint anything on it at all (this was back in about 1978-79 maybe) i was 10 years old at that time, and in too much of a hurry to worry about paint...lol. i have another one of these in the works, which will probably be built kit stock, with the correct decals...but i HAVE to change those gawd awful toronado wheels that come with the kit...i hate those wheels, and they don't say "2000 plus horsepower drag car" to me at all.

marbelizing is so easy to do, and it gives a more dramatic effect than plain old solid color stripes. I've never done this ... did you use marbilizing paint and saran wrap? nope i did it the old fashioned way, with regular old paint. first, i sprayed the gold base color. next i masked off the whole car except for the areas that i wanted marbelized. i sprayed regular gloss black paint on the un masked areas. right after i sprayed the black, i blotted those areas with crumpled up saran wrap, rotating the wrap as i went. you want a clean area of saran wrap every time you blot on the wet paint. by doing this, it makes the marbel pattern, and allows the gold base color to show through the black. the more you blot the black, the more paint it removes but you tend to start loosing the marbel-like pattern when you take alot of paint off. once the black was dry, i sprayed candy apple red over the whole thing. since candy red is semi transparent, it made the black still look black, and the gold areas are bright candy red. you can do this with multiple colors, and it will work. you don't have to cover it with candy paint once your done. just experiment on junker bodies...it's simple. i did this before to a studebaker, except i used blue for the marbelized area. with candy red sprayed over it, the blue areas turned purple.

thanks guys...it was alot fo fun to do this one. this kit is so simple, yet it has the appearance of being difficult to build because of the twin engines. i may be doing a second one of these in the near future, which will probably be done in the correct colors, with correct decals...but those darn toronado wheels will have to go.

hey anthony... i use the 3-m brand "blue" masking tape (or painters tape). green 3-m masking tape works good too, but it's a little more expensive than the blue. you can get the blue 3-m masking tape at wal mart, in the house paint section...the green is in the automotive section.
