i got this old mpc kit of a 1976 amc pacer from brian T awhile ago. it sat on my shelf for awhile, and then i started to bash it. i ran into a few problems, so i shelved it. i got it back out last week, and finished it up. The chassis is from the baja beast v.w. bus. this put the small block chevy in the back seat. i added a blower to it, and a set of headers from the switchers T bucket turned upside down. the front axle and leaf springs are from my parts box. paint is burgundy metallic, topped with candy red...it gives kind of a raspberry color. of all things...an amc pacer..and this one would probably do some good wheelies....lol. if anyone here is a hot wheels fan (i know that there's a few) this build was based on an amc pacer hot wheel that i had as a kid. it was called "packin' pacer". granted, this isn't one of my better builds, but it still came out pretty cool.

That looks great!! It was one of those MPC Pacer kits that nearly turned me off the hobby back in the late 70s when my interests were branching out ... still one of the very worst kits I've ever attempted. Good to see one came out looking that cool!

yeah..... they stepped down and actually made an amc pacer, thinking it would be a good seller.....lol the pacer in my opinion, is one of the ugliest cars ever made, why in the world would they make a model kit of it ? i don't know, but i had to do something with it. since it's so ugly to begin with, i figured that a blown small block in the back set MIGHT add a little bit of cool to a dork mobile such as this. my first idea was to paint it up like the pacer from the waynes world movie, and stick a v-8 in the front, with a blower. that idea just didn't do much for me tho after looking at pics. of the car used in the movie.

Kool Rob !..To Me The Pacer Is Still A Giant Leap Ahead, Compared To Most of the Crap On The Roads Now...At Least it Had Chrome, And Didn't Have Airbags, Computers, & a Bunch of Plastic " So Called "Styling" - The Name was at least Original, Not A Recycled one ; from One of the Earlier versions and the Styling, Although sickening, was again, original, not bits & pieces slapped together from past model years, as a Sales Ploy like the garbage thier pumping out now .....It Could almost be considered "A Car" !!! !!!

My parents nearly bought one!! I don't remember the reason they decided not to (they went with VWs instead).
After seeing some concepts for the new Lincoln and Ford Interceptor (which looks to be the car that sparked Mustang 4-door sedan rumors), the Pacer suddenly doesn't look so bad anymore.

It may be ugly (by nature) but it sure is cool Rob!

now thats cool !!! my first thoughts were of the packin pacer when i saw it. i still have mine ! the pacer may have been a lifesaver for amc, it sold well the first year. amc originally designed the car to have a 4 cyl, but the deal with the engine manufacturer fell through, and they ended up putting the inline 6 cyl in. since it didn't get good mileage, the sales dropped after that.
as for ugly, well maybe in 1976 i would have said yes, but then came the 80's x cars (citation, phoenix etc ) and just about anything from 1985 and up - my vote for the ugliest us built car was and still is the first generation merury sable/ford taurus twins . they were god awful looking new, and they aged horribly

Compared to, say, the Pontiac Aztec, the Pacer looks quite cute. But then few vehicles can match the Aztec in appearance (and how lucky we are).
