i got this from hale awhile back...last summer sometime i think. well, this was part of that stalled projects idea that was floating around for awhile. hale sent this to me, and beleive it or not, i somehow misplaced it. i found it last week, and started building it.
hale had already done some work on it (there is a complete chassis under it, with a quick change rearend, long ladder bars, and a straightaxle in the front). i took the car from there, and did some body work to it to get the body into shape. the interior was pretty much done, but it's not the stock one. this one has a full bench seat and a full dashboard in it. i had to make a rear bumper for it, so i narrowed a 1:25 scale 57 bumper and shaped it to fit. i had to make fill panels to go inside the front fenders, and across the front to hide the vacant engine compartment. i took the straight axle off that hale had on it, and made a new one because the one that was on it, made the car sit too low in the front. this would not fit the look i was after. hale had done some body work to this already (the rear fins were extended, and the front arch where the grill is supposed to be, was filled) i removed those parts because i wanted the body to be as close to kit stock as possible to retain the cartoon look. the rear slicks are from the creepy T kit, and i think the front tires are from a pop corn wagon. the rims are good old cragars, and i posed the front tires turing to the left. i added some oversized radius rods to the front axle (i think they are from a chuck wagon). I used the triple stacked blowers form the creepy T, a parts box injector, and a snap draggins scoop. I made up a fuel rail for the injector, and added a line going to it. I painted the drivers face with a mixture of flat tan, flat red, flat black & flat white paints. i just kept mixing in colors until i got a color that i thought looked like well tanned skin. his hair and moustache are black. i made up a long shifter out of some small diameter chrome steel rod, and i put a big white knob on it. the drivers right hand is on the shifter, as if he's downshifting while making the left turn. I mounted the drivers head with a straight pin, so you can turn his head from side to side. I put a beer wagon beer keg gas tank in the front, to look like an oversized moon tank. I made the big chrome fenderwell headers out of a set of 1:18 muscle machine pipes. the only original parts for this are the body, the driver, and the windows...everything else was made to fit. I also added some cut down chrome bullets to the hood (the original kit didn't come with these bullets) and a set of chrome door handles (the molded in ones got shaved off). Paint is testors bright yellow, over gray primer followed by 3-4 coats of clear laquer. i did the trim in silver, and the side inserts in gloss white. once i got it done, i was going to send it back to hale. one thing led to another, and after a phone conversation with hale...he told me to go ahead and just keep it !! i chose to call this car "project xyz" ...because it's similar to the "project x" 57 chevy.
what a deal !!!! i have to give a huge thanks to hale for letting me keep this car.
