... the model show outside Rochester, MN (in Stewartville) next Saturday. I've got the cars picked out which I want to enter, but want to enter two in the SF/Fantasy category as well. So got out this Godzilla kit to do some more work on. I got this many years ago, kept the painting to the Big Guy to his mouth, teeth and eyes, and weathered the base a little. Looking at it now, it needed a lot more work. So I weathered the base some more, and started working on filing seams down, puttying in gaps on other seams, and repainting the Big Guy as well, after which I'll give him a black wash and some detail painting. He originally was molded in brown plastic, but he's getting a gray paintjob and then the black (Godzilla was an ash gray in the original movies -- never green!) There are two Japanese fighter planes for him to hold as well, so I'll look at adding a little more detail to those. Originally I just painted them silver and left them at that! There might not be much more to do them anyway. This kit was originally built during my first attempt at a comeback to the hobby, but my wife & I were experiencing a lot of difficulties in our personal lives then, and I didn't enjoy building as much as I had thought or hoped I would. Luckily the 2nd comeback attempt worked, and occasionally I go back and fix up what I did half-a**ed so long ago. This is one of the best of the Bandai kits as well (1/250th scale), and based on the Godzilla in the original 1954 movie.

I Think it's the same one I have, but my base is different, I always thought the head was a little wacky, & looked kinda like a dog !!!....One recommendation, if I may....Maybe consider doing a little saliva trail, coming off the teeth & gums, by putting a few drops of white glue on wax paper, letting them dry, scraping them off & attaching them, & finally brushing it with a little gloss to give it a "glistening effect".....it really adds alot.

Finished! And was still doing painting & stuff right before we took off for the model show! Even have one of the jet planes on a little wire to make it look like he's buzzing the Big Guy! Show was today, got some nice comments on Godzilla. Brought home some medals for Milk Truck and Dr Smith & the Robot. Started out this morning with -12 temps. We're in the deep freeze here for a little while! I'll be getting a new photo album up on Fotki soon ... unfortunately, my camera decided to go wonky when I was taking pictures of the cars and the auto focus wasn't working for the close-ups -- NOT a fun thing to discover at home when looking at the photos! At least it didn't happen to all of them (but all the tanks, ships and airplanes came out good, along with figures and dioramas).

Nice work! This was always my favorite Godzilla kit, and it looks just like Big G from the original film. One of these days I might repaint mine in the correct gray colors--it's currently done in shades of green (built before I knew better).
