Whoah... Great job Fred ;D That came out nice. I know my 8 year old son would love if I could build one like that, but my simple talent dont cover that I´m afraid... . He´s a big fan of Tow Mater, or as he is called in the danish version, Bumle... You really nailed the look and ecpression on Tow Mater´s face... Nice work

The 1:1 truck should be at the World of Wheels show this weekend in Mpls / St Paul (at least that's what they're advertising) ... I'm personally more excited to see the Deora II in person, but this should be fun too.
Great build!!! Got the expression just right!! I have to admit, CARS was probably my favorite movie that I saw in the theatre last year ... and I've lost count how many times I've played Sheryl Crow's "Real Gone" song from that movie!

hey fred- that came out great ! after seeing your build, i'm thinking thats another kit the model companies missed out on . can you imagine , kids going to a store and seeing the "cars" models ? mater , lightning ,ramone ? the king would have been cool too. maybe it could have inspired a new generation of builders. i guess they can all go and stare at all the 57 chevy kits instead.

Fred, that has to be one of the coolest things I've ever seen! Strong work! hey fred- that came out great ! after seeing your build, i'm thinking thats another kit the model companies missed out on . can you imagine , kids going to a store and seeing the "cars" models ? mater , lightning ,ramone ? the king would have been cool too. maybe it could have inspired a new generation of builders. i guess they can all go and stare at all the 57 chevy kits instead. Yeah, someone really missed the boat by not creating kits from the characters in Cars; at least the main characters, anyway. Even if they were simple snap-together kits, I think young and adult modelers would have been buying 'em.

If it would have been the 60's or 70's we would have seen at least 5 models or more from that film. They can't keep up with the small die-cast, the shelves are always empty around here.

WOW!! Thank you guys for all your comments!! I am quite humbled by it all! I did this just as a fun little project and the only real work involved was on the facial features/eyes. I could have probably done more to make it more accurate-shorten the wheelbase, raise the cab height, eyes bigger, etc... but I wasn't sure if this one was going to work. If I was going to do the beat up Mater I would definitely do the prior mentioned modfications!!(another project?)
Thanks again guys, now I am off to start another project with the Linberg "Satan's Crate" I am building one stock and one modified.....Oh Yeah I haven't been able to come up with a name yet for the contest, Hopefully I can think of something to join in the fun!!.................Take care--Fred

Fred, You have absolutely blown me away!! Young 'Mater is awesome. What gets me is how quickly you did it. It takes me months and in some cases years to even get close to finishing!! You, my friend (I hope I can call you friend), have a gift. Yes, you do. So, what about Ramone, Flora, Stickers (McQueen), Sally, Luigi, Sheriff, King and of course my fave: Doc Hudson? Can't hardly wait for the next one you do!! I am still in awe!! I keep flipping back and taking a good long look!! WoW!!!

Wow!! It looks just like him!!! (at least before he got all ragged out!!) Wonderful!! My granddaughter has been on a "Cars" kick, and we have watched that movie about a hundred times in the last few weeks. I have to admit, Mater is probably my favorite character. (Who can't love Larry the Cable Guy anyways?!) Your modeling skills are incredible! The 1:1 Mater was featured in Ol' Skool Rodz #18, Nov. 2006. It shows the complete construction of it.
