Thanks, but I cannot take any credit for building the pirates...........this is the work of my 14 yr old son Michael!! ;D ;D..............I'll take credit for pointing him in the right direction and even for morbid stuff, but his builds both cars and figures are all his work, not mine. I will give him all the advice he wants and tell him how to do something, but he has to do the work himself..........you know......tuff love!! ;D ;D ;D ;D........................Fred

Man, do I enjoy looking at these kits ... that's one I had completely forgotten about!! Another one I wish I had ... of all those kits, I saved one but its in sorry shape, and the vacuum-formed plaque that came in another kit (one with a big box). I thought I had one of the coins as well, but that might be long gone.

Hey Michael, I would like to say that your builds are getting better and better looking. I think your dry brushing technique is getting better than your Dad's! ;D Keep up the great work!

Dang I love this series of kits. You can move on to the Haunted Mansion kits after this series, then the universal monsters, then....

Wow!! Wonderful work Mike! I have to ask, are these kits costing you guys a fortune? I'd love to have some, but don't want to spend megabucks on them. I haven't seen any at a reasonable price in a long time. Are there still good deals to be had on them? wouldn't you think they would reissue these things with the current "Pirates" craze? Talk about lack of hindsite......

Well, to answer that question Tim is both a yes and a no. Michael spends a great deal of time scouring ebay for the old pirate kits. He will buy (with his own $$$) built ups, partial kits etc for fairly reasonable prices. Some of the complete unbuilt kits have cost him $75 to $100 plus. To his credit he has been able to restore many built ups and with his parts stash has been able to make them fully functional and complete.
When he bids on a pirate kit he waits until the last minute/second and throws out his highest bid he is willing to pay. If he wins the model great, if not then he is content that it went for more than he was willing to pay and he just keeps looking until he finds another one.
he has been selling off his Treasure Hunt collection and only using a small portion of the proceeds to fund his pirate addiction!!!! ;D ;D ;D........Fred
