Just when I'm getting the body glued on to the frame, and making sure it all fits right, I get a phone call from family who need me to come over for some "projects" to help them with! But luckily I was able to get out of it and go on to finish this! ;D Wow ... I always thought that this would be a cool-looking kit, ever since I first saw it on the store shelves years ago (never bought it back then because the box was opened, and I've made it a rule that I NEVER buy a model kit if its been opened). This was one of those times when after I got the forks & handlebars attached, I went "wow" to myself ... this is one incredible model once its all together! And I'm glad the decals were such crap, as I don't think it would have looked half as nice with them on as it does now. Some touch-up painting is all that is left. Its also a model that I was having a hard time holding on to ... not a lot of places to hold on to when you're gluing parts, checking fits, painting, etc!! Now to make room upstairs to display this ... this one is pretty big as well!

I think the real one would be just a tad dangerous to drive!!! The model however looks great!!! BTW, buying open kits, especially vintage kits is a plus for me, I can open them up, and inspect all the contents before I shell out the $$$. My 2 cents!!!

Maybe I should change that to: "I never buy open kits AT STORES" - that makes more sense! At model shows that's a different matter.

Its funny how as a kid I LOVED decals and would stick on as many as I could on the models ... now, I'm the exact opposite!

Great build! Love the color. I was looking at this pic of the trike. I would not want my legs under those headers. It would get a little warm.

What a Great trike!!!! came out very nice. Is that dash custom made ? SUPER job No, the entire dash assembly is straight from the kit ... thats a great compliment for the paint job! Thanks! The gauges are part of one piece that gets glued from behind. The piece is chrome. I painted the faces Tamiya Semi-Gloss Black, carefully scraped the paint off the raised areas with a toothpick(acrylics hold enough to plastic, but can easily be scraped away which comes in very handy for stuff like this), and then put a drop or two of Testors Gloss Clear for the 'glass' of the gauge. The dash panel has a nice wood grain molded in. I first painted it Testors Model Master acrylic Wood (its like a tan). After that was dry, I made a wash of mostly Tamiya Flat Yellow with a touch of Tamiya Red Brown and brushed that on. When that was dry, I very lightly dry brushed Tamiya Red Brown in streaks going across the dash. The same method was used for the wooden ends of the tank, but those came out looking like cork because the Red Brown didn't really streak but looked like dots -- an effect I wasn't going for, but really liked when I saw it!

Wow!! really nice looking trike!!!.........I have seen the kit but could never bring myself to buy one. The box photo doesn't do much for me, but seeing yours give me all new respect for this kit!!!!
Leave it to my son Michael, He found the amt 40's willy at wally world with the box all sorta crushed in (still sealed) and he goes and asks a clerk if they would knock off some $$ because of the crushed box and they took off $3.00 After he bought the kit and opened it the model was fine. I guess it doen't hurt to ask?
