A couple weeks ago, I posted a pic of a rare swap meet find I acquired. After a one week thrash, it's finished!!! At first I thought it was complete, but when I got it all apart (thank goodness they gave us pretty crappy glue back then, and the original builder didn't use a tube and a half!!) I noticed one of the front radius rods was missing, probably never was there since the steering arm was placed incorrectly , and it wouldn't fit anyway. I made a copy of the one that was there, shot on some Alclad chrome......new one!!! I still need to make a rear license plate, and am going to add some small round tail lights.
Before......After......Not bad for a 47 year old model!!! It's another one I had as a kid, and now have again. It also answers the question us older guys always ask..."What if I could have built back then, like I build today?"

Ouch - is that sharp! Boy, lots of kits I would have to have the 2nd chance of rebuilding ... luckily, with so many of the reissues, I've been able to ... but plenty more out there I still would like to do over!

Thanks guys!!! This was a fun restoration. The hardest part was getting the front fenders apart, as the original builder had glued the supports to the inside making the tires stick out. Hmmm, must of been some kid in the 60's.....lol. I tried to do this one like the box art, but didn't have any decals, of course I met a guy last weekend that had several sheets....oh well.

I have a couple I have waiting to build into one complete. This has a special place in my heart, as it brings back fond memories. Both this and the blue beetle qualify for the rally guest gallery. You should submit some high quality pics with a write up of each to dave. There are decals available for this one. www.showrods.com/decal_digs/shopping_cart_pages/black_widow.html

I'm curious about some of your resto. Did you paint or polish the body? And when you worked with the chrome did you Alclad everything or did you leave the original chrome on? I've seen some old Monogram kits from this series that still had some brilliant looking chrome and yours looked like it had it too.
Thanks, A.J.

First, Paul, I'm working on sending them in to Dave, but I'm waiting to get the scuba gear done for the BB.
AJ, yes all the chrome on the Black Widow is original!!! I think Monogram had it covered back in the day!!! This resto was done using the original 1960 plating, and after all these years it was still in great shape. I got pretty lucky on this one, and all for $13!!! I did repaint everything too, it's redone in black lacquer, and cleared with two part eurathane.
