My friends, I have become concerned that we're possibly verging away from the original concept of the contest. The idea is to build a model car based upon inspiration provided by the decals. I'm concerned that by releasing the name information early, the building is taking off and we're in danger of ending up thematically radically different than whatever you might recieve as finished decals. I'm concerned because I have already gotten requests to replicate existing artwork for contest decals. I'm concerned that we're going to have several, if not all, entries nearly finished by the time decals arrive, only to find out that the decals don't fit with the builder's model. Please wait until you get your decals to make any decisions about your contest entry, and to please let me make the aesthetic decisions regarding the decals, based upon the original name creator's ideas. I don't want to be hard-nosed about this, but I am also not going to rework several decal sets to better fit with finished models that just need decals. Nor am I going to copy someone else's artwork to fit a contest model. I said I would be open to making a few minor changes to a few decal sets, provided that time allows, and I will. I have agreed to produce a large number of original custom decals for basically cost of materials, on a deadline. And I hate deadlines. Please allow me the dignity of creation on my end, and use your decals as springboards for your inspiration. The way the contest was meant to be.

Please wait until you get your decals to make any decisions about your contest entry, and to please let me make the aesthetic decisions regarding the decals, based upon the original name creator's ideas. The way the contest was meant to be. While I'm cool with that, I basically have all the parts ready for assembly - I went through at least four seperate concepts before I got to the point I'm at now. I don't think it'd change my build and/or color scheme no matter what you come up with, but I designed the build with several areas to accomodate artwork, so that no matter what you end up doing, I can integrate it into the build. Sorry if you feel that I'm jumping the gun, but I'm excited to start getting this thing together, and the early stages of the build, before finish bodywork, paint and decals, are my favorite parts. Worst case scenario - I break out one of my other three concepts if it goes together better with the decals.

Well, I totally see your point dkald. I did´nt start the building process yet, but I have a sketch inside my head, of how the model will look like. I think your point is totally fair, and I for one will put a hold to everything, until I get the decals. Then I´ll decide if my idea fits the decals, if it doesnt, I´ll replan the model. Your totally correct, the whole idea was to build a model to fit the name/decals we´ll get from you. (Not copying allready existing decals... ) dkalDan - you´re the man ;D

Dan Still cudgling around the name you e-mailed to me. Since I have no idea HOW I am gonna translate the name I got into plastic, I'll be happy to wait for the decals to arrive, in hopes that they will spur my imagination.
Cheers.

Dan,
Although I am not a praticipant in this contest, I'm confused as to how anyone could start building a model when they don't know what the name of the model they are to be building is yet!
When you first anounced this contest I thought it was a terrific way to cultivate some REAL creativity by starting with a name and building from there.
But it seems that some of the participants are putting the cart before the horse, so to speak. They see the name as just someting to slap on whatever they feel like building. That, to me, seems to be going in the opposite direction from where you intended this contest to go. Do you think these same folks might be dissapointed if their entry doesn't win?
Good luck with the contest, I hope at least a few entries fullfill the initial intent.

Tory:
All entries will fulfill the initial intent....
All the builders got their names allready. Its just a question of the design of the decals, with the names allready revealed.

Yikes. The ever-anxious monster is rearing it's ugly head again.... We stressed this up front on this whole idea guys, wait and be patient. Giving all of us the names I think was a nice concession on Dans part. You have to remember, Dan gets up and goes to work just like the rest of each day, and makes these decals when he can on the side. My original idea for this was to maybe see Dan make a few bucks on this without a lot of hassle, and for some of you who haven't made use of Dans fine work to get a sample of it in your snoot, and maybe use it in the future. The guys is a decal genious, I'm not sh*tting you. He has never failed to make something totally kool for me, with or without my input! He can take the vaguest of ideas, and create something awesome! Worst case, you put the decal on a little plaque-board next to the build if it don't fit. (Scurvy pointed this out to you a few weeks back...) You stick it on the trunk, the roof, the chassis, on the monsters t-shirt, under the hood or trunk lid, wherever you can tweak it. Who says you can't cut them up and rearrange them in a vertical mode, or horizontal, sideways, whatever? Dan won't let you down guys. I promise you. Leave him alone, let him do the work, then you make it work for you. Plain and simple. If ya' don't, we'll have to sik Brandon on your azz, and it won't be pretty.....LOL.
