I don't know how many of you were readers of CarToons back in the day, but one of the things I remember quite vividly were all the drawings they printed after they held their "Draw a Vette-Van" contest. All different concepts, ideas, age ranges and skill levels were represented, but I remember that they had such a huge response that they continued to print runner-up drawings for several issues after the one in which the winners were displayed. Some of those drawings got snipped out of my copy and went into my idea book that I kept even back in those days.
I'd like to propose not a contest, but a "Post Your Vette-Van Day". We can establish some date after the start of the year, and post pics of our built-up MPC Vette-Vans, kit-bashed Vette-van concepts or even Vettes and vans displayed side-by-side. No prizes... just a goal to shoot for when we can finish a project. It doesn't even really have to be done - post pics of whatever you have by then.
It's my feeling that when all these contests are over, maybe we should just focus on some of these informal theme posting dates to keep things interesting. Almost like an online themed NNL.

I remember that contest ! They must have had thousand of entries . The contest sounds like a good idea, although I've never built a vette model in my life ,with the exception of a Deals wheel stink ray.

I remember the Vette van days.. We were young kids just getting into cars. Drawing was the greatest way to get the ideas out of our heads and CarToons had those How to Draw pages. I still have a bunch of the pages now. Boy did we spend hours drawing cars then we turned into teenagers and of course Grafitti reared it's head and we were hooked ....and Booked .....and reBooked ..... and we turned into a gang of hoodlums that spray painted The Bronx, NYC for a few years back in the 70's .. and Booked again ... now that I think about it I can blame CarToons for my wonderful childhood...LOL Thanks Scurvy, Glad you don't charge by the hour.. ;D BiLL....

I actually just picked up one of those Ecklers Vette kits for like 3 bucks sealed, so that would be a fun start. I was deep into the Corvette thing in it's hayday of the late 70's, and a good friend of mine had one of those Van kits he built onto one of his Vettes that got wrecked. I'm in.

Yeah - Farah's Foxy Vette was based on an Eckler's kit. I've got a Greenwood Vette around here somewhere... >

I'm really into doing something awesome for this contest, but I'm having trouble finding a kit with a Vette body that's a van. Any pointers fellas?

After looking at the pics Bob posted from the CARtoons mag, I'd say it's time to start bashing. The possibilities look to be almost endless.
Just use your imagination. ;D

I'd say that you can either hack up/add a roof to a Vette, or add Vette parts to a Sedan delivery, Station Wagon or Van kit. I could totally see the Vandal with a Stingray grille/hidden headlights and round taillights... maybe even '59-style side coves.
Sky is the limit,

i think 90% of these will have to be kitbashed...i don't remember seeing to many vette/vans as actual kits...maybe 1 or 2 at the most. all i know is that mine (if it all works out) is going to take a ton of work. i'm just waiting on the corvette kit to come in the mail before i can get started.

Thanks for the pointers fellas - I think I'm gonna go the add-Vette parts to a Sedan Delivery route!

Just a little - I need to decide if mine is going to be rear- or mid-engined.

I remember that contest!! I was,and still am, into MoPars. When the drawings appeared in the mag I was more interested in the artistry then the Vettes. Kool idea about the contest!
