This has been a brain storm of mine since I started building my 1:1 version. I took an old glued up Thunderbug body and cut the rag top style roof in. Then removed all fenders and built in wheel houses. The down side of what I did there was now I don't have an easy way of putting some kind of interior base in. I was going to put some kind of figure in driving but I'm not sure how I'm going to do it now. I had trouble finding an engine but lucked out with an old MPC kit that was some sort of crazy looking age of aquarious style dune buggy. The engine is perfect for it but I have been working out the placement so I can still use all the parts for it. Right now the dog house doesn't fit between the wheel houses. I plan on working out an actual cloth ragtop that will be kind of flopping in the wind. I'll be using the straight axle from the front of a Roarin Rail and have some kind of nasty headers coming out the back. Should finish out nice but once again need to get back to it eventually. For now, here are a couple shots. Enjoy.

Thats a great idea.. You gonna paint it to match the final paint job for your rod? You gonna keep it in Volks rod? BiLL.. Well Bill, I'm not exactly sure what color my 1:1 is going to be. I've changed my mind more than a couple dozen times with it. I was just telling some friends the other day that asked the same question that I probably won't know until I'm ready to put paint on the car. That will hopefully be Summer to Fall time frame. I don't understand your second question though. Am I gonna keep it in volksrod? Let me know what you mean here and I'll be happy to answer it for ya. Thanks also for the great comments. Everyone's comments mean a ton to me! It's what's been fueling my motivation and ambition to complete these brain storms. I just can't thank everyone enough!

That's soooo rad. You need some swoopy Dave Deal-looking velocity stacks for the carbs out back and a stinger. A fabric rag top pulled back would be a nice touch. Or.... make the rag top closed, put some black sheeting in the windows, paint it and call it done!

Or.... make the rag top closed, put some black sheeting in the windows, paint it and call it done! Thanks Brandon, I appreciate the comments! I've already got a pretty crazy idea for the intake setup. I was thinking about making up a set of crazy manifolds that go up and allow me to mount a Roarin' Rail blower onto which I thought would look pretty cool. I had also thought about a way too big set of Weber 48s sticking up which would look pretty freakin' cool too. either of these with a wicked looking set of 4 individual headers should make the back end really pop! I'm kind of amped up on this build at the moment and have jumped over to it. As for the rag top, I had thought about doing exactly like you said but I think I want to put some colored glass up in there with a flat piece for interior similar to the Deal's kits just so I can put something in there with a big old hand sticking up out to shift with. In any case, I'm betting you will be pleased with the finished product here. Maybe I'll dig out my "thunder bugaboo" conversion again and have a look at that. And a huge thank you to everyone else that has taken a moment to check it out and comment. It's appreciated more than I can tell you.

Last one I guess for Judy, Jody, or whoever it is.
This one has been on my mind the most because it was inspired by my 1:1 and has some great cues on deck that I haven't even spoke about yet. I will complete this one some day but maybe after I get one of my full scale projects on the road. That's what is important to me at the moment.
I hope you guys enjoyed the blast from the past...ha ha ha...LOL!

Deals wheels interior/driver?

Thanks for the comments guys.
As for the Deal's interior, I tried to get a Messaschnitzel pilot but that came up dry. I'm not sure he'd have been correct for it but I would have liked to have seen if it would have fit in there. The original thought was the Red Baron from the snoopy sereies kit but finding that was even harder and came up dry also. I'm not sure either would have worked and I do have another option but haven't tried it yet to see which one fits best. It took me awhile to find the right engine for the kit and I've been piecing it together as I located parts which is why it is kind of on hold. I may get back to it in hopes to have it for Tim's new contest finish depending on how much time I can find to work on it.

The original thought was the Red Baron from the snoopy sereies kit but finding that was even harder and came up dry also. What about the Red Baron, from a Deal's Wheels Fokker Funfdecker? PM me, if you think that might be worth a try. I have one I might be willing to part with; and / or a spare pilot figure from a Messaschnitzel. Keep in mind they're all "partial" -- busts, more than full figures, I mean. The only full figure I remember from the Deal's Wheels series was in the French biplane they once did. (And I had traded that figure off, to someone here.)

Just brainstorming here, but what about the Monster Scenes figure kits? Those are out again, and fairly small. And styrene: so they'd be cut-and-paste-able, without too many problems (other than their being hollow.) Squadron Mail Order had most of the series on sale, this month. I think the Victim (female) figure kit is going for $15 bucks, right now.
Another thought, for what it's worth: have you checked out the Amazing Vehicular Modeler magazines? Only two issues came out, but they had a ton of cool, wild ideas in each issue. (And there's one more "crazy car with a monstrous figure" build-up, in the Werewolf issue of Amazing Figure Modeler magazine -- issue #46, I think that one was. Lotsa ideas there...?
Off-topic: is it just me, or does it feel a bit weird that when people (companies, I guess I mean) put figures in car kits, that the range is so limited? It's usually 20-something to 40-something males, in the Deal's Wheels series. No chicks, anywhere. No older people. No dogs, riding shotgun. I guess that's one reason I like the custom "monster rods" that David Fisher (of AFM) occasionally designs and builds, and features in their magazines.

All good ideas Wardster. The one thing that maybe some of the guys are getting the wrong impression about is that this build won't be like the normal Roth styled monster rods. I sort of took a cue from one of Roth's decals of old which had a guy's head in a racing helmet filling out the interior. You could say it was sort of what Deal was doing with his series of kits but I was looking for something with a german helmet of sorts. I still have some other ideas and I'm sure I can pull this together as I go through my parts stashes but most of the concept is laid out. I'm just getting the last bits together so I can make a run at finishing this build. Thanks for taking the time to pass along the additional information, I do appreciate the input.

I've got a mold made of the DW driver with the helmet and also his torso .. if this might work let me know AJ ... It's the same one I casted for my FunnyBug ..

AJ, any progress on this? Should be an awesome product. Schteve Thanks for the compliment Schteve! Unfortunately it's been shelved for a long time now. I haven't done any model work in about 3 to 4 years. Even my collecting has taken a back seat to other things. I did however start thinking about it over the last couple months when I revisited my projects. I had some really nice compliments on this one, my Uncertain T, and a couple other random ones. So I'm hoping to get back to them maybe this winter a little bit. I'd really like to complete this one though since the snap draggins are close to my heart. Thanks also Dennis! All compliments are very much appreciated. It might be what helps me get back to them...LOL!
