Seeing the latest "Digger Cuda" builds made me want one too. But, of course, I couldn't leave it alone... I got a deal on two "Stinger" kits off the bay a little while back... Since I didn't really like the drivers head sticking up outta the trunk, I thought a rear engine version would be cool, and by using a "Stinger" chassis, fairly easy... Nuff words, picture time! I shortened the body by just over a half inch in front, filled in the trunk and the steering linkage hole, I also got rid of the odd undulations towards the front of the nose. I haven't decided if I want the supercharger, or if I'd like fuel injection (Stacks) better. The exhaust pipes are a question mark still too. I'll ether extend the Digger pipes or maybe run them out the back window... Not sure yet. I narrowed the Stinger wheels and am using a set of MPC slicks, they took the wheels perfectly. I also added a quick change rear end for faster gear changes between rounds. Lots of ideas for this one! Thoughts?

BRAVO!!! Great idea Mike!!! It looks like you have most of it figured out, and I really like how you did the nose of the body by filling it in. That was one headache I fought on mine. Keep at it, can't wait for more.

That's just what I wanted to do with one of those, but I was contemplating a modern fueler chassis with a shortened front section.

Looks Great! How about moving the Hood Scoop to the roof, just above the engine?

Took a break from the "Cord of Wood", the 'serious' project, and turned my attention to the 'Fun' project... Got more work done on the "Stigger Cuda". I moved some stuff around on the chassis first. I moved the "tube" part back about 1/2-3/4", mainly to get the stair-stepp back some. I also wacked a bunch out of the transmission, fore and aft. I wanted the engine further back than where the Stinger placed it. By doing this, the driver doesn't have to kiss the windshield anymore. Speaking of drivers, I cut him free of the little bit of seat he had around him and carved away what was left so he could sit in a seat proper. Plus I can take him in and out this way too. I made a set of torsion bars to fill the gap in front of the frame and give the axel an attachment point. I threw the engine the rest of the way so I could get a feel for driver placement, open the roof scoop hole to match the bigger Stinger bug catcher (Bird catcher?) and started making the headers fit better. I want them shooting to the back at a nice angle that makes sence with the rest of the body flow. With that done, I went to work on making this funny car tilt proper... With the low slung rear and the tight radious wheel openings, making the body tilt is not an easy trick. Not easy, but far from impossible! (I do the impossible before breakfast!) Answer, double action hinge to the rescue! By using the same hinge design as I have on the Cord of Wood, the body not only tilts, but lifts at the same time, ever so slightly clearing the tires as it goes up. It's a thing of beauty to see in action, really. i429.photobucket.com/albums/qq18/mykturk/100_0444.jpg[/IMG] Till next time!

Well Mike, it looks like the hook is set deep since you came back over to (the dark side) small scale building. Great idea. I like the change out of the rear wheels. I HATE those rear wheels that come with the Digger kit.

Very cool project, Mike. Excellent revisions.
Do you think you might have a chance to post a good assortment of pics of you Quadmill Caddy and amazing Rambler?
I would like to add them to my fotki site.
Flounder.

The front wheels were off some "West Coast Choppers" die-cast bikes... supposedly 1/32 scale but seemed closer to 1/28-1/25.

A quick little update... I punched a hole in the rear panel for the parachute to stick through, then mounted the 'chute to the frame, so when the body tilts, the chute, lines and cable will stay in place! After killing off a few spare curved windshieds (none fit right after being cut to 'fit') I decided to just close off the rear window completely. I'll paint it gloss black when I paint the rest of the body so it'll still look like a window. This was a fairly common practice on real funny cars, and there really isn't much to see there anyway... I added a better roll bar than the Stinger offered and have the steering all worked out now too. The steering mount/gauge panel will tilt open so I'll be able to display it with or without driver when finished! Here's a little better look at the double action hinge for any of you that'd like to try and add one to an upcoming project! Till next time!

Got the last bits of this 'n' that's worked out at last... Brake and gas peddles... Nice little Moon tank to fill an open space, and supply fuel of course! Oil filters, fuel pump and body bulkheads... Window shot... I'll be using one of the colored glass, don't know which yet. Wheelie bars... Next time, there'll be some primer and paint thrown on!
