Finally got the flier with the correct dates. This is the 39th year for the Portland Classic. This year it has been renamed to honor our good friend Bob Paeth, who passed away last year from cancer. The event is March 6,7 , 8, 2009 at the Oregon Convention Center. Thursday March 5th is move-in, any one bringing models to enter on Thursday will be able to do so at no charge. Those bringing entries during the event will be required to pay the admission to the show. Everyone will receive a ticket to get back in on Sunday for the Awards Ceremony. Also, the reintroduction of "The Best of The Best" contest will happen at this years Classic. If your build has won a class first place or any "Best of" category (Paint, Detail, Engine, Show, etc) you can enter to put your model head-to-head with other top winners. The Bob Paeth Portland Classic and The Best of The Best are judged contests. If you wish your entry judged, it will be handled by the judging panel. Hope to see you there! If you need additional information send me a PM and I'll get back to you with my cell number and we can chat.

Jeff, we normally don't set classes until we get there as you never know what you're going to get in the way of entries. But, I can't remember a time in the last 15 years where we haven't had a curbside class.

Just finishing up posting the last of the photos from the Bob Paeth Portland Classic the Best of the Best at the Portland Classic. We had entries from all over Oregon and Washington. Jeff Miller, (Hizoot) flew in from Southern Calif. A fantastic modeler by the name of Steven Carpenter drove up from Arizona. And a young man that had just moved from Italy to America brought models in. Three of the builders traveled more then 500 miles to attend the show. We had 37 entries from 9 builders in the junior category with Trevor Olson from Bend, Oregon taking the Best in Show-Junior Award for his '53 Chopped F-100. The final total for number of entries was 367 with 6 of them deserving Best in Show honors. After much deliberation it was decided to award Best in Show-Senior to Steven Carpenter for his 1/16th scale Blue Max Funny Car. The Best of the Best contest was reintroduced this year. Any entry into the Best of the Best had to have won a Best Of at some show sometime. Fir the first year back with this event we had 24 entries that had won everything from Best Paint to Best os Show. A panel of judges examined each entry to find the one build that was the very best of all these previous winners. The judging was based on a 0-25 point scale over 4 different categorizes that included, Engine, Detail/Chassis, Interior, and Finish. When the final numbers were totalled the top 3 builds were 3 points apart with Jeff Millers '40 1/2 Willys Coupe being names the Best Of the Best for 2009. Hosted on FotkiCongratulations to all the winners. Hope to see you all back next Year. SABA Club Member Bob Robinson presented the "Revellion" to Jan Paeth after Bob's death. Bob's daughter and son-in-law brought the model to the show to display. So here is the Revellion with Hizoot's winning Willy's. Hosted on Fotki

You sure did miss a great show John. The number of entries was the second largest to date. We had the largest number of motorcycles entered ever (none of which could have competed with your builds).
Got to meet Jeff of course as well as a couple of members off Traditional Rod and Kustoms forum. THis internet thing might be around for a while.
The Pacific NW NNL Model Car Fest is April 18th. Maybe, you'll make it over then.

Yes I know that I missed a good one, seeing Dave is always a pleasure, and missing meeting you Jeff is a bummer. Maybe next year will be a better year. My schedule has been very hectic this year, as always being a single dad, and my work routine is complicated as a carpenter. This economy thing is heartless as well. Again, Congrats to you Jeff, you da man!!!!

Jeff, you are correct it was one of the tightest contests I have ever been a judge at. The final points total had third 1 point behind second and Best of the Best (Jeff's Willys) 1 point ahead of second.
Rest assured that the BotB will be a part of the show for as long as I am a part of it, and hopefully someone will carry it on after I'm gone.
Mark your calendars now, The 2010 version of the Bob Paeth Portland Classic and the Best of the Best will be March 5-7, 2010 at the Portland Convention Center. You have only 364 building day remaining.

I'm sure I've said this before to others out there, but thanks Dave for posting those two great photo albums for us unfortunates that don't have or can't get to these great events. What excellent builds and I see our ranks herein were well represented. Gerry G
