Hi guys...been around here a while...mainly just enjoying the nostalgia and looking for reference material. I am a Card/Paper Modeler...I design, as well as build, paper Models. One of my regular projects is designing small (about 1/60 scale) versions of favorite Hot Rods, Race cars, Diecast Customs, etc Usually vehicles that I have a personal interest in, and Customs that I have seen in my life or those that have had some sort of an impact on me. The models are purely fan-art, I share them for free. If you aren't sure about my KoolWheelz models, they are usually single page, printable models, that you download, print, cut out and assemble with regular paper glues. Heres an example of a blank prototype design and test build: and then, heres the finished and assembled model that I share: Please feel free to check out my paper Model site www.cutandfold.infoand look for the KoolWheelz Model page to find all my miniature car models. Many of my designs are old Plastic Model kits that I built when I was younger or just had an interest in. Recently, I thought it would be a fun idea to add miniature Model Boxes to some of my kits. Like this: (keep in mind, Rommels Rod is only about 3inches long)Finding scans and images of the original Boxes is not always easy. Box tops aren't too hard to find, but I also need the four box sides. If anyone has boxes for any of my models and are willing to share photos and scans, it would be greatly appreciated! I am currently working on a design, of The Amazing Moon Mixer by Revell. And of course I am looking for the Box art as well. (I am hoping lizz62 will read this and consider helping me out? I'll send a PM)Any questions...I will try to answer. If you want to see photos of any other models, just let me know. Thanks for having me and letting me share. AirDave (Dave Winfield)

thanks guys...glad you like 'em Have a Tumbler batmobile and the '89 batmobile. wasn't sure i was interested enough in the '66 version. Might do an old '40s version. Still many models to do...got a growing list for this year. Stage Fright has been on the list for quite some time, ever since I did the Boothill Express. Want to do a few more vintage drag cars... the original back-Up Pickup is on the list. And definitely some more Tom Daniels and other kustoms! But first, as I mentioned, I want to throw together a few miniature Model Boxes so I just need help finding some scans or photos of any of the models I have built.

Really nice werk.....now lets see u do a VW bug !!!! .... Lookin forward to seeing more of your werking's !!.....er....folding's !!!! ~ Dpaintbizer Dean ~ Well, I did this... In honor of Hot Wheels and VW Buses, I created my own version. This Drag Bus was really a lot of fun to design and went together really well. Some models can be a pain! lolHaven't done a Beetle yet, although I have always been a Bug fan! Have thought about doing a "Herbie" at some point. We'll see.

Do you have any construction tips? For example, what's the best glue to use?
I'll share my experience with Corgi 267 Batmobile repro boxes: Office Max uses Photoshop to print from (color and detail much better than printing from Adobe Acrobat) on 80lb cardstock. Use a Scor-It for perfect folds.

Glues?...haha thats a big question! I am a member over at a major card Modeling site and thats a common question from beginners. We all use a variety of glues. Many serious modellers use CA Glues (like Krazy Glue)
But many of us use PVA Glues...white paper glues. I use a product called Aileens Tacky Glue which comes in a variety of strengths. Some guys use regular white paper glue and some use stonger products like Weldbond.
Contact cements are used, 3M spray adhesive is the most common. Used mainly for laminating heavier card parts and internal formers but i also use it for quick tab connections on some models.
Only thing you have to be careful with is very thin waterbased glues. Remember that your printed Inkjet pages are water soluble, so wet glues can cause ink runs.
.........................................
A member here tried to download one of my models and had problems.
Each Koolwheelz model is one page: one high resolution model sheet, ready to be printed, in PDF format. You will need a PDF reader installed on your computer (Adobe, FoxIt, etc)
My Koolwheelz models have been downloaded many times with no problems. In fact, of the two dozen models currently available, I have recorded over 12,000 downloads in the last year. (I can check specs like that through my file hosting site)
Anyway, his problems were with the File Hosting site and he asked why he had to pay for "free" models. Heres what I passed along...
there is no charge...you are downloading a file that I have stored on a normal file hosting site (megaupload). I upload all my files and models to a site like this so I don't have to worry about storage or bandwidth on my website.
yes, I pay money to host my files there...but you don't have to pay to download them. (thats why I ask for donations on my website, just to help offset the storage costs...but this too, is not mandatory)
however, when you download a file, you have choices...choose the normal, free, slower download option and wait for the required countdown (this controls heavy loads from free users) then download the file, save and open. (you might also see some advertising from the file hoster (megaupload) while you wait, depends on your browser)
other option for "no waiting", ultra high speed, no advertising, premium downloading is to buy a megaupload premium membership.
But, this is not required to get to my files!
Hope this helps anyone else having issues?

Other construction tips?...
scoring fold lines is a good idea, before you even cut out the parts.
cut out parts with scissors or hobby/craft knives. whatever your personal preference. because of the small parts in some of my models, Xacto style knives are a better choice (in my opinion).
pay attention to valley and mountain fold locations before cutting out parts.
cool thing about paper modeling is you can print as many models or replacement parts as you need. don't panic about making mistakes...other than the time wasted, you can print out new parts and start all over if necessary!
for most of my modeling I now use 65lb smooth white cardstock. I sometimes use 110lb for large panels and larger scale models. For models with internal structures (formers), I print on regular weight paper and glue that to heavy card material layers.
All of my Koolwheelz models are designed to be printed on one sheet of 65lb cardstock.

Been taking an excited look through the Tom Daniel's Contest threads!! Wow...some amazing models! TD's designs are obviously a big influence on me aswell, I had many TD kits when I was young! And they are a big part of my paper koolWheelz collection. I'm sorry I didn't find the Contest threads until today, but I don't think my models would have met the Rules of entry anyway. I've got more TD designs I want to create in paper miniature, but for now I would like to share the models I have already created. Keep in mind these are 100% original paper designs by me and assembled entirely from paper (65lb white cardstock to be exact) and are about 1/60 scale (each around 3" long)

80lb card might be a little thick for some of the smaller bits but shouldn't be too bad. I hope you will post some pics.

!!!! Wholly Crap !!! (Batman... ) Where'd u come from !! I'm really impressed ! Ha! "What he said!" Very nice work, all around! (And a lot of fun subjects, too -- that always goes over well, here!) Just a thought, but you might want to consider putting tips (or copies of the ones you posted here, I mean) over on the board's section just for tips and tricks and techniques. That way they'd "stick" around longer (and/or would be easier to find). Just suggesting ... since not too many of us build card models; and it looked to be good info to have handy, if/when we gave it a shot. I'll have to check out your site, too. It all looks / sounds cool!

Thanks for the kind words....I just enjoy the interraction and sharing of the designs. As always, anyone can contact me directly (info is on every model and on my website) if you have questions or need help with anything. For "Tips" and advice on working with Paper Models, might I suggest you visit one of my main hangouts ( hope its okay to mention?)... www.papermodelers.com

Just finished this new addition to my KoolWheelz collection... It still needs a little more tweakin', but this is the prototype I built last weekend. Shes about 75mm long (just under 3") and all paper of course. Won't be available for download for a while though. It was actually a request from a Card Modelling site for a special giveaway model to mark their One Millionth visitor moment. I promised that they could have the model exclusively for one month before I put it up on my website (for free). I'm also trying to put together a miniature model Box for it too! Which will give me a place to add their site logoAnyway, I just thought I would share the Moon Mixer with you. If you check out my KoolWheelz models, you will also see I added: Green Hornet Black Beauty Thunderbirds Lady penelope's FAB1 Captain Scarlet Spectrum Pursuit Vehicle Captain Scarlet maximum Security Vehicle and I'm working on Chuck Miller's Fire Truck right now!
