Wow Dave, these are very nice card models. You have represented some hot rods in card that look as cool as the plastic models, for what they are. And I really like the miniaturization of the card models. Great art work and great builds. Hope to see more soon. Have you ever considered the Deal's Wheels for paper?

thanks guys
I need to become more familiar with the deal's Wheels kits. Who knows, there might be something that interests me. I know I really loved Zingers when they first appeared!

just a followup...did a little research into Deal's Wheels cars. (its been suggested twice now that I consider some Deal's Wheels models for paper miniatures)
I have to admit...until I got here, I knew nothing about "Deal's Wheels".
very odd (for me)....that I was building Kits in 1970 and 71, and yet I don't remember "Deal's Wheels". As I look through the catalog of designs I remember a few odd models, but many of the kits I wasn't aware of until the later reissues.
At that time I knew (or thought I knew) all the great car designers and artists, and yet somehow Dave Deal passed me by completely!
Maybe his cars and designs weren't promoted up here as much as other stuff? I don't know.
But, if nothing else, its fun looking into this and looking back to one's childhood. I am enjoying learning more about Dave deal and his fabulous artwork. Who knows, there might even be a KoolWheelz paper model idea in there?!

Welcome Dave,
This is the freshest thing I've seen come down the pike in years. Very cool concept. I actually dabbled in this concept about 30 years ago when I had no extra cash for plastic but no where NEAR this finished product. Kudos brother!
Do i smell another (dreaded) contest Nolan?

another paper Deora?...I would love to see that!
may as well keep you updated...test building a Munsters Drag-U-La tonight (in paper of course!) and in the middle of design work for Stagefright, Red Baron, Backup Pickup, Fire Wagon, two cars from Blade Runner and a Bugatti Veyron!
I also hoping the next contest you guys run here, I can squeeze a paper entry into!

Finally got Drag-U-La finished which completes the set of Munsters Vehicles! Can't believe it took this long to finish one of my favorite cars, from one of my favorite TV shows! I usually bang out a Koolwheelz design ina few days, but I started this design many many months ago. I got really lazy on this one because the first version didn't build so well. Anyway, its finally finished and available for download on my site. and for anyone who notices...yes, I am aware that the exhaust pipes are reversed! Its an easy fix, but I had already taken all my photos, and completed all the presentation images and artwork for the model, before I realized the mistake!

Sooo Cool!
Don't worry about the pipes, I always thought they looked better that way anyway.

You know, if you were to print these as decals, and then transfered them to flat and round plastic stock, the aditional shapes and detailing posibilities for these are endless... Hmmmmmmm. Where's that Moonmixer again?

well, I am in the graphics, sign making business...one of the things I do is working with cut/printed vinyl graphics.
making decals is also something I do.
but not like this... using a photo of the model or creating artwork to use as a decal is fine, but these are copyrighted images and objects. I can't just start making decals of Munsters cars and the like.
I don't have any permissions to produce the models... just like you and your plastic builds, these are purely "fan-art", personal hobby productions that I gladly share with my peers.
I don't sell these models or the designs. And I don't allow anyone else to redistribute my shared designs.
....
now, what I think you are suggesting is applying the parts to 3D surfaces? to add more 3D effect. Unfortunately, the parts are not designed to fit onto a 3D surface. That is referred to as "skinning"...as in the 3D Modeling process.
In Video games, 3D models are skinned. if you look at the "skins" before they are applied to a 3D surface, they look very oddly distorted.
You could apply these parts to thin plastic stock and assemble in the same manner as the paper models. But that seems like a lot of trouble just to say its "made of plastic"? lol
Just make 'em in paper! Thats the point...cheap, simple and everyone says "thats paper??!"

I'm in the graphics biz myself, vinyl cutter, so on. Been at it way back to the days of One Shot, a maul stick and a set of quills. And yes, applying the decals to sheet plastic is the exact idea. Not copyright infringment... Just like what you're doing, only in plastic sheet. It's stronger. Print it, apply it. Then cut out the windows, adding true deep dish wheels, a full interior, other small scratch made parts. You know, like any other model I build. I'm funny about super detailed stuff. Can't get enough of it. A tiny , super detailed Moonmixer would be the coolest, don't you think? And it'd only cost a little bit more than cheap.

not really a fan of the 66 batmobile, but I might add it to the collection...one day. to be honest, I'll probably do a 1940s version first.
XR6...first time I have ever seen it...probably a little before my time? don't really have any personal connection to that one.

I just had another member offer to help me with some scans of the Moon Mixer box. [thanks!!] I think I am okay with that one now...did a lot of web searching for better images. had to find some parts that didn't have tears or box damage in them. Funny that not everyone has saved their model boxes perfectly? odd (LOL) Anyway, even though I always like to start with the best quality parts, the final size of this miniature Model Box means a lot of detail will get lost anyway... so what I have got right now will probably suffice. I do, however, need a few other Boxes! I need actuals scans or just good quality photos ...each side as straight on as possible. Heres a list of the most important models I need, if anyone can help out, it will be most appreciated! Dodge Deora (a green version if possible?) Boothil Express Snake and Mongoose Munsters Koach Drag-U-La Pie Wagon S'cool Bus Red Baron Pink Panther car I am hoping for oldest, earliest versions of these models rather than modern looking reissues. Feel free to email me (through my website Thanks everyone!!

Very, very cool stuff.... on rainy days my brother and I would make cars from different colored construction paper and a lot of scotch tape. I had no idea people were doing this on this kind of level. It's incredible, thanks for sharing, and if we ever have a contest, it would be cool if you entered. There is no rules stating what medium they are in, as long as they fit the theme/subject matter.

Have you done a Lil Stogie,Flameout,Firecracker,or Groovy Grader? haha no, I have not done any of those...to be honest, I don't even recognize any of the names! I'll have to look them up, but to be honest, if I don't already know them... then theres no chance they will get on my to-do list.

yes, thanks, I looked at those designs. they are obviously not already on my list of things to do (you can check my current and upcoming projects on my site)
and unless someone reminds me of a vehicle I am really interested in, I don't jump to do requests. Not trying to be mean, just have my own agenda.
My original goal was to model some of the cars and vehicles that I have loved all my life or those that have an important place in my life. Cars I have seen, customs from my favorite TV shows and Movies, my first and favorite diecasts and plastic models, and designs by my favorite designers.
I get a lot of requests to create specific models but I have to turn down most suggestions because of the amount of work and because I have no personal connection to those designs.
I always ask for suggestions, but then people get upset with me for refusing to build their ideas. I hope I haven't been so rude with you, that wasn't my intention.
Although I do love many of the early Krazy Kustoms, I'm not a big fan of all the really whacked out customs that were created just for plastic models. things like the Groovy Grader and Flameout don't appeal to me and (I'm sorry) but I really don't like those wide oddly shaped sidewall tires that have been used on many of these models.
Firecracker is kind of cool though!...figures...its a Tom Daniels design!

yes! I have those. nice models. a little bigger than mine and a little more detailed. (some very small parts in those too! lol)
The Boothill model is almost a year older than mine, I hadn't seen it until I had posted mine and then someone showed it to me. I love the fact that someone else thinks like me to create these great little designs!
I'm a little disappointed with the colours and textures, and the Paddy Wagon design isn't as well done as the first two.
Still worth grabbing!

well, I guess its been a while since I posted last! sorry. I lurk...visit every now and then...but I am busy on a number of forums, and its hard to stay active on them all. I have a question for Revell Snaptite experts, but first... a follow-up, re my KoolWheelz miniature car models... there are now over 100 models in my collection and available for free download on my website. Divided into subCategories since there are too many for one section!davesdesigns.ca/cutandfold/html/koolwheelz.htmlTom Daniels designs and old customs/show cars are always at the top of my list of favorites. I've added some in the last year, like The Red Baron. So, heres my question....I'm working on a Hemi Semi inspired paper model. Trying to decide what colour to produce the model in. I never owned this kit so I never painted a specific colour. I figured I would just create it in a basic kit colour, which I chose to be red.
And now I see from discussion here, that it may have come in four colours?
(I asked this same question in another thread...I'll ask it here too) What colour(s) of molded plastic did the body come in? and how did you pick that colour? Did the box indicate a colour, or was it just a chance grab? Thanks for the help.
