Zombie and I are putting together an article about Dean Jeffries for Rod & Kulture... I will have to give him a call and ask him some stuff within the next week or so. You guys are show rod and TV car fans, anything in particular you'd like more info about?
Who knows what could happen....

It's funny because we will pull the basket up to the display and he will stand inside so they are eye level, and I will leave him there for a bit while I chase down other things, and he'll still be digging whenever I get back. It's cool that a dollar or two will buy him some happiness and quiet playing time for the afternoon. I wish they had something cool and cheap like that for girls...

I don't think much about it, but I have most of the tools I need, plenty of kits to build (I'm done stocking up) and tons of parts to get creative with. I am also not a detail freak, so I don't blow chunks on aftermarket parts.. if it's not styrene or came from a kit, I don't use it...
I have dropped some change on a rare kit that I wanted to hack up more than once though... but I don't think much about it...

I had started putting some hot wheels back, because I had a sizable VW toy collection... but then I realized so was everyone else around that time because the Hot Wheels had just started to boom... so I opened most of them up and gave them to my kids. It was a great decision.. they play hot wheels all the time and my oldest (10) now has over 200... he loves going to the store and standing up in the basket and digging through the packs for ones he doesn't have. (Why DO they put them way above all of the kids' heads???)

There was one of these that went several years ago, and one guy said he knew he was a modeler because he caught himself trimming the flash and seam marks off of the handles of his cheap plastic paring knives...

Or the purple degreaser stuff... Never had any problems with that stuff. I use a baby wipes container and leave it over night. Scrub with a toothbrush and wear gloves. Wash with soapy water.

Paul's right... sometimes things are presented to us as learning experiences, or to charge us into taking action. Maybe your own kids wouldn't have your full attention like they will now without that as a point of reference. You only get one shot with kids, not everybody takes that seriously or realizes that until it's too late... and you can't save everyone. Ken, I'm glad to be of some help. Sometimes that comes from the most unlikely source.

Everybody is on their own path is all I can say. The kids that come with the ex's go with the ex's when you split and there's not a whole lot you can do about it.... I had stepdads and have been one. It is what it is. If they contact you and want help, you have to decide how much help you are, other than that, they make their own choices. Just let them know you are there if you want to be, and do the best with your own kids. The pattern they are in is one that won't be broken until a strong enough kid comes along to say "enough." Sometimes that never happens. They learn by example very early on. Do the best you can with yours. Sounds selfish, but it's the only real answer....

I ran across this tonight while doing some research.. Look at the rusty chassis photo and just be in awe at the guys who monkeyed cars like this down the track with a supercharged Nitro-burning hemi... just amazing, and very much like the old funny car model kits.. nitrogeezers.com/Cars%20-%20Super%20Mustang.htm

I think half of the fun is engineering something in scale that could possibly be real. While I'm not a detail freak, I try to build things that could be real given the right 1:1 parts. I don't just glue tires into the fenders or leave off pedals... Some artistic leeway is given in how WELL the rigidly-mounted straight axle would handle in a car like the Bad Medicine, but you could mount one in a showrod-type car that wasn't seeing actual competition.
