Comments for the Contest go here to keep the Entry Thread clean and organized.
PLEASE be kind to your fellow showrodders. Negativity is not condoned.
Everyone has worked very hard on their builds... This is a celebration, not a critique. If you choose to make "suggestions" on what YOU might have done, please do your best to present it in an encouraging manner.
This can be a touchy area for some when creativity is involved, so let's keep that in mind, and have some fun!

Showtime! (a bit early, but see my Contest Info thread for why... )
Welcome to the 2011 Fools For TD - Tom Daniel Tribute Contest!
This thread is for images only!!
Comments and attaboys belong in the discussion thread. Any non-entry posts on this thread will be deleted.
Please include a short description if you'd like, and limit your images to 4 or 5. You can add multiple entries within the same post, or you can make a separate post for each build.
If you didn't finish, please post your in-progress photos here anyways.
This thread will remain open until next Monday or Tuesday night when I get back from Del Mar to allow time for pictures and posting over the weekend.... Unless Paul sees fit to close the gates, I'll leave that to his discretion. After that it gets locked and history will have been made. Thrash and finish those builds!
So, without any further adieu, Let's do this!

Gentleman.... I have some news about the contest. Life, like most of us here, has thrown me a bit of a curve ball. Having custody of my three kids, bringing my home up to five children took its toll on my relationship when combined with the travel for my job. As a result, I had to move near my hex-wife in Southaven, MS right on the Memphis border. The move was sudden and painful, but I have children that need watching on weekends like the forthcoming when I am away for five and six days at a time.
So, a. I didn't get to finish my entry, and B. I will be out of town this weekend with limited Internet access.
I will open the Contest Threads a little early, either tonight or tomorrow night, unless Paul wants to do the honors on the proper day. I will post the in-progress/stalled car that I have been working on. I was actually thrashing on it here, but it needs paint and I have run out of time. Work calls.
I didn't want to put this in the contest thread, but rather a heads up. Entries will run as normal, post early if you like, we'll keep it open until I return Monday evening or if Paul wants to step in and close the gate. We do, after all, have no rules. LOL.
Unfinished always welcome... Please show us what you were working on.
Again (and it will be explained in the threads) we will have one for images only, and a second comment thread for positive discussion and attaboys.
Tim, I hope you will handle the voting as last year? Please chime in here if you can...

It's all fun and games until you get it dipped or blasted, isn't it?

I had an unfortunate series of events, and now live in Mississippi. I don't know if I'll be able to get mine finished with the move and work deadlines, but I will try. Both are about 70%...
I should open the threads on time, April 1st...

I will make two threads.. One is to post images, the other is a discussion thread for comments and attaboys... Seems to work well.

Saturday was just full of people with bad attitudes and snide remarks. What does give people the right to act like jack-asses at a model show, anyways? I've had things said to me, and heard things said that I would never say to another human being... You'd think that everybody was there to "promote the goodwill of model building" like they claim, but few really are when it comes to interacting with people outside of their little groups... Like they have some right to be a jerk... I don't get it. The last few shows I've been to brought me down, also... People should think before they speak and decide if somebody was telling them what they are going to say if it would offend.

I am having problems with the attitudes of the people at the show. I went not feeling it yesterday and I guess I had my eyes open this time to see it. But things just seem to be going down hill these past few years. I hate to have to agree, but for some reason people's attitudes are wack at the shows. It will pull you down, espescially if you are not a super-detailer or are creative. Admittedly the bulk of the hobby is made up of a bunch of nerds. We all are in a sense. It's a very solo hobby outside of a model club meeting and a message board, and there is a lot of insecurity and lack of proper human interaction. A model car show and a real car show are two worlds apart. Even in CA where show roddy stuff is kind of accepted, it is still hard to get over some of the people's attitudes. Snarky comes to mind. It's worse here, but it is the only place we can gather, and the swap meets are always fun. The good thing about models is that they don't get rusty or full of leaves and dust like a real car if you stuff them away for a year or three. Maybe trim your stuff back to what you really want and take a break. I am also at the point where if it isn't something new that winds me up, I'm just not digging it. I built sooo many models as a kid, everything is just parts. I want that fire of inspiration and that high of the hacking and fabrication and ah-has! of dropping just the right part into place and staying up until 2am working on something. Sometimes I'm just tapped and nothing stokes my brain. Things stay in the closet and when the mood hits they are there.

You can only work on one or two at a time... I will share how I pare my stuff down when it starts to get out of hand. Go to the pile, and pick something up. Ask yourself: If the house was on fire or about to flood or a mudslide forced an evacuation would I save this one? Make three piles: Yes. No. and Maybe if I could come back in or had time. When you get through.... go back through the Maybe pile and really think about it... which ones really mean something, or are valuable and you want to build them, or are rare. You'd be surprised at what you don't REALLY care about that is stacked up...

LOL! After all these years! No wonder why you two didn't find each other sooner, apparently you've both been at the bench making tiny parts... ;D

I think I'd lose the will to live just researching something that complex, never mind actually building it. That's funny.. If I was going t spend all that time on something detailed, it'd better be full size and do a burnout. His shop is cool, though...

Funny, I'm working on one of those...(VERY slowly) and chopped the top... but I've never seen the instructions either. I just bought a box of parts at a swap meet. Thanks for posting that, Charlie...

That's probably the nicest C-cab I've seen, other than the Fire Truck... Personally I would have added a T cowl, but I suspect the flat firewall is more accurate for a delivery vehicle, like the Depot Hacks.
It is very well thought out, and done, though...

I'm hot rodding a Depot Hack, and it is indeed a bone stock kit. I've added another frame and some stuff.. Should be cool if I ever finish it.

I meant to say the back... you have to score it... They make little scribing tools, but I've never used one.
It takes a while... be patient and don't put too much pressure to cause a slip up.

I do mine slowly with a sharp knife... just keep going over your lines with a little more pressure. It's tedious and time consuming, but it can be done.

My buddy Meatball found it behind a shop, he lives in Arizona... He had it for a while and I think was setting up the frame. Last I heard he was going to sell it.... I'll have to hit him up and get the scoop.
