Store displays--sheeshhhhh they are so rare and special to this hobby in my mind, because while the models themselves can be and are reissued, the ancient store displays are not. They provide a unique portal through which we can experience those days, looking through a window at a hobby store, and seeing the desired outcome of a quest in a 3-D fantasy setting. So cool.
Glad you saved it and good luck!

Thank you for your testimony about how the Rally has helped you, and your mom's influence on your hobby life today. Best of luck with the remodel and moving in, not to mention staying healthy now in your 50s.
Reading what you wrote was timely for me, because last night, I took the leap to purchase "Rapidweaver" again, in a new quest to rebuild The Show Rod Rally into a modern website. Obviously, the main site (not the Proboards Coffin Corner,) is using late-1990s technology and in a certain irony, has become its own version of a vintage entity here in cyberspace.
But my hand here has been really forced by Paul Canney's passing and the fact that Paul was maintaining The Guest Gallery for me while I was on the road, fighting the forces of evil in corporate America. There are too many talented members in this community who are posting their works on the Coffin Corner when they should be in the Guest Gallery for all to see with ease and enjoy. So that's a big part of why I'm taking on the rebuild project this summer now nearing the end of my 2nd year in retirement.
I'll tell everyone more about that in a post later once I knock the cobwebs off that part of my brain and see where it's going.

Over a decade ago, I visited Tom a few times, because I bought him a Macintosh computer and trained him on it, all while rebuilding his website.
The 2nd visit was at his newly-built home in AZ. I have some pics of me with his Vette. However, I do not think it was the color of what's on the box art. I think it was sitting in primer or something? Let me dig and I'll see what I have.
Hold please....someone will be with you shortly.

Great build dave great paint and overall detail and finish So good you are building these rare kits better than sitting on the shelf These kits are made to be built and not collected A great point about not "letting them sit on the shelf". Once we check out of inhabiting this rock, it's very unlikely that our heirs will build them. So keep 'em coming gang!

WOW! That was extra cool. I need to get my ass to this show next year. This story is amazing--how he acquired it, how it was stolen from him, the recovery process, and the 15-year restoration with his son. I love it. It so happens the Orange Hauler was the first model show rod I bought on eBay in 1998. Thanks for sharing this with us. Check this out:www.starbirdcarshows.com/

Now that I have discovered Plugins for these forums, I thought this one would be handy. It's called Quick Reply BBCode Buttons. Gives you the ability to format your quick replies as you can with a new thread.

Not sure how many of you know of this show rod. I did not until this week when a friend sent it to me: The Reactor is a custom car built by Gene Winfield. The low slung car featured height adjustable suspension, front wheel drive, and a powerful engine, and appeared in episodes of four TV series: Bewitched, Star Trek, Batman, and Mission: Impossible.[1]en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Reactor_(show_rod)

Not familiar with Chuck's Drag Racing Decals. If you join the Facebook group, you can purchase decals from him? Did you give him a scan of the Mean Mav decals on the door or hood or did he have them already in stock?

1:32 sounds like a bit more of a challenge--was it? (compared to a normal 1:24 or 1:25). Looks clean for such an old kit. Good choice on the bone-white top.

Looks like fine work on a storied brand. Even though I'm a Corvette guy (and yes, I finally own one as of 2024,) I also love Porsches and looked hard at them before getting my C8.
Tell us how you painted it and what you used?

Looks great. Now Imagine, armed with the research, to have a series of them in their 3-4 different colors. Think about that not just for this showrod, but many that were painted different colors in their active show lives?
