In 1972 I built the Don Garlits rear engine dragster on a TV tray while, of course, watching TV. I entered it in the local county fair. I won 1st Place 1/25 scale model cars and trucks plus 3rd Place overall. ;D The local hobby shop asked if he could display it in his store window, SURE!! I stopped there quite regularly after work, it was right on my way home. One day I noticed the front air foil was crooked. Somehow it had been broken off. >:(Rebuild #1. During our next move I thought I had it packed really safe, WRONG!! Rebuild #2. When my oldest son was just crawling, it was on display at my home, on a bottom shelf, he grabbed it by the front axle and flung it across the room!! Rebuild #3 Fast forward (early 80's)to now having two sons. We had a finished basement with built in shelves. Perfect for displaying my collection of models, slot cars, etc.. A stray play ball made a direct hit on Big Daddy's car. No rebuild yet. It is in a box with the ribbon and medal I won with it. That is the only model car contest I ever entered. I have built slot cars from model kits and have won best appearing car several times and even won a few races!! Marty

Nice builds!! Since it is an AMT kit, may it can be repopped?!? Does anyone know if the Wild One was actually street driven? I would think the slicks on the front would make for some krazy steering! Marty Grooved or not, those were not made to do anything else except give straight line traction. The sidewalls are different then tires made for steering. Plus the square edges I would think can cause problems trying to turn them. Even though that is one of the koolest cars ever, that has always gnawed at me. MOO Marty I see now from your photos that the front slicks have been grooved .. these little builders are really fragile so I think I'll leave them the way they are ...lol... Starry

Went to see the Yellow Fang Dragster. Took over 400 pictures of the History of drag racing this museum has. Amazing. I didn't want to leave. Here's a couple pictures outside the museum. Garlits did his Wheelie in Englishtown. Anyone have any pictures of Ed Roths Yellow Fang? quote] Yep: Marty

While cleaning (ROFLMAO) I found one that is not exactly a copy of a show rod, but definately influenced by one. It is the "Twang Thang" by Hot wheels. The Voxmobile is one of my favorite cars and this is one of my favorite Hot Wheels. It was made in several different color combinations. It is unfortunately OOP. Marty

Here it is in 1/24 scale slot car form: This one is complete except for the missing racing stripes. According to "Vintage Slot Cars" by Philippe de Lespinay: "A contract with Sears produced the weird "SC100", a dream car patterned after a concept by Harry Bradley." Marty

Can this show be found anywhere out there? I was a Kookie fan as a kid myself, sure would like to see it again. It aired for a while on one of the nostalgia channels, but it is not anymore. But you can buy the DVD: www.tvdvdstore.net/77-sunset-strip-dvd-collection.htmlI'm sure Best Buy or somebody has it in stock. Marty

Another book I got today had an article on one of the most influential street/show rods. This car set the standard by which T-Buckets were built for years. I'm talking about "Kookies Kar" from the TV show "77 Sunset Strip". It was built by Norm Grabowski. The book is "How to hop-up your engine" and is dated January 1962. See the article here: smg.photobucket.com/albums/v521/mrtc4w/Kookie%20T/Marty

Star wars vans yes, yes, Y-E-S! I don't know what they are selling for, but he wanted $20. The box is the R2-D2 with both models inside. I looked them over and never said a word. He offered them to me for $15. I thought that was fair. Marty

Today my Wife and I attended an Antique Show. We go every year mostly just to look around because when I do find something I want, it is outrageously priced. Some items come back every year with the same stupid price and the dealer probably wonders why no buys it. Today I actually spent some money:
-R&C Magazine April 1957 -Custom Car Wheels & Lowering by George Barris (no date assuming 60's) -Custom Upholstering by George Barris 1962 -How to Hop-Up Your Engine January 1962 (w/feature on Kookie's T) -R&C Models September 1964 -CM Magazine August & November 1966 -MPC Star Wars Vans R2-D2 and Darth Vader
I'm Happy! ;D Marty

I recently completed two trades with members of this board. Both had excellent communication, fair trades, items exactly as described, and fast shipping. In spite of my slow mailing to them, it went smoothly.
Thanks Zombie(Shay) and Steve Hamman!
