Better turbos. The kit exhaust turbine is in the foreground. At least one header. Need one more header and collectors. Heat wrap coming up thanks to a tip from a couple Klowns. Hosted on Fotki

I was thinking strips of tissue paper held in place with thinned white glue. I really want the texture right.
Any ideas?

Hey Skurv,
That will look awesome. Such a good fit. Where did yo get those front tires? Are you going to go with the original graphics?

LOL . Good job Dave.
I did notice that. I was all impressed with myself until I turned the front wheels and noticed that the steering wheel did exactly what you said it would and went the other way. I was going to move the tie rod arms to the front to fix it. Dang engineering.
Made a header and some turbos today. Well, just made the heat side of the turbos. The kit ones sucked. Fun stuff. Well except for the headers. I hate those.

Hey Rocketeer, The tires are ring sizers. Get four sheets of then and you have one of each size. I got 8 so I could double them up for wider back tires. Thanks for asking. Here is the link to the build if you are interested. public.fotki.com/Scottcolmer/the-timbo-challenge/Flounder

Well, if we are playing by the rules, I think I just forfeited. Timbo and I agreed to keep it low detail. That was actually my suggestion. To quote Dirty Harry - "A man's just got to know his limitations." I just can't not get detail. Now I have working steering through the steering wheel. Also got the side re-cut to match Scribbles rendering. Now to fabricate exhaust. Flounder Hosted on FotkiHosted on Fotki

Hey Timbo, Life and front suspension got slowed me down.
Front suspension is almost fabbed up. I learned something...I can't just glue parts. They have to look right. Blame Paeth. Also Zoot wondered why I would make functioning steering for a car that has the turning radius of a house. That was incentive enough to do it. I have to get the steering wheel and column in place, then it's on to the exhaust/intake fabrication.
The rear suspension is pretty much Aerotech stock with just a bit of shaping to get it skinny.
Still lots of smoothing and I have to get the windscreen buck finished so I can have it vaccuformed.
We leave on vacation in a couple weeks. So figure July by the time I am squirting paint. You win the race.
I'll post pics later this weekend.

Found this in the parts box. Built it 15 years ago. Could be a good time to use it. Of course I always thought it would be cool the see the blowers hanging out the side of a Deuce hood. Hosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiDid I say piddle? Cool is the work of other people. Flounder

Is it wrong that I just piddled? That's a keeper! Skurvy had the same idea. I originally went for the NACA duct on the roof to feed the single turbo. But now that the lower side of the body/chassis are going to be so high, it would make sense to incorporate them into the chassis design. Not too hard to plug the duct on top. I'll have to switch to V8 power. I think I have a Banshee motor that might work, or there is that Gurney Eagle center exhaust mill, I've been wanting to play with.... I really like the idea of the windscreen fitting up into the body too. It makes the chassis half of look fast too! Thanks Dave!!!!!!! Flounder.

That is looking too cool, Timbo. Gotta agree with Jeff. Colored tires are out, unless you go for solid, flat Yellow, just to cheese off the zootster. I was thikin' solid flat red myself. Guess you saw the reaction to that one. You might want to consider a shade of metal on the rims. Little contrast for all that metal flake. Just a thought. I've been fabricatin' the front suspension. Nothing I had looked right, so I made one. It could be poseable, but I'll refrain. I also ran into a BIG design issue. Because the wheel wells are so tight, I have to make sure enough of the body separates so it can lift off. I did OK on the back, but front will not work. Now I have to decide if I want to spit the front at the mid line or reattach the side insets and then cut the body free at the top of the curve. Here is a pic to show what I mean .....hopefully. Hosted on FotkiThe body is not held tightly together in this shot. See the separation line underneath the inset? I would have make it separate on TOP of the inset. I originally put it at the bottom to try to hide the separation line. Or I could split in the middle like I did the back of the body. Seems like that would let in a 200mph breeze. Whadda ya think? I'll post more in progress shots when all four wheels are hung. It's pretty close. Flounder

I have no idea why I am laughing at Tim's post. Maybe because Zoot offered me up in that "we can take it" retort. What ya' doin buddy, tradin' me for a pack of photo etch" Damn! When you said you goy my back, I thought you meant different. Seriously Timbo, That big hat of yours is makin' the whole country list to the east. What's it filled with? I guess Bob cleared up the whole realsim vs detail question. I'm with Bob. I have a hard time with guys who don't do thier engineering. Cutting the top off a tire to fit it under a car? Better to do the engineering. Something about 32 coupes with all the molding lines sanded off that bugs me too. Here's the other side of the coin...I got marked down on this car because the judges said the rear axel passed through the crankline. Hosted on FotkiThat would have been correct except I thought of that and made a very wide crankcase that could house a left and right drive shaft connecting the half shafts via crown gears. Hosted on FotkiGuess they did not see that part. Realism? (look zoot, the yellow car Flounder.

Here are some pics of Justin's Mustang. He picked the colors and sprayed the paint with a just a little help on the masking. He also laid in the pearl clear. Justin did nearly all the assembly with the exception of a few couple tricky parts. I stepped up with the plate done to Justin's request "LYT SPD" and the red stripe decal. Hope you like it.
