I started this 15 years ago. It's taken that long to get it this far. I just need to finish the engine and some of the trick stuff. It also needs a clear coat. If no one objects, I could use this challenge as motor-vation to bring it to a close. If it considered too close to complete, no problem I'll get started on a Paddy Wagon idea I have been kicking around. Flounder Hosted on FotkiHosted on Fotki

WOW.
Talk about two different approaches, both with stunning results! Tim - You are simply the master. Loved seeing your Goul Bus again. The Tiki trike is jus' too Koool.
Rat Rod- Tight and stunning. The black and gold bike is a subtle killer.
Never built any of those bikes. Still don't have the urge. You guys make it look fun.
Do have a couple Super Diggers though, Tim. Got an idea for a little bashing.
Thanks for the pics gents.

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement gents! The fittings are from Detail Master. They come in a variety of sizes. You can get both parts of the fitting and the hardline too. They can be colored red and blue with sharpies. Love those glasses. They are pretty close to what I use when I am not near a magnifying lamp, which has been lately because I have been working in the house to be with the family a little more. I bought some high magnification reading glasses that work pretty well. I was able to plumb the manifold below in a hotel room using them. Hosted on FotkiHopefully today I can get the fuel system wrapped up. Flounder

Don't ask me why I do it, but it makes me feel pretty damn good. Here is one week's worth of work for a distributor. Hosted on FotkiHere are the detail public.fotki.com/Scottcolmer/on_the_bench-1/page4.htmlWish me luck. I have to finish the fuel system and dashboard. I think I'll break down and run brake lines. Next project is only going to have plug wires. THAT'S IT! Flounder

I am a detail junkie. For some reason I just can't let it go. The last two highly detailed models I built were to be fast builds. One of them ended up with butterflies visible through the injector stacks. Consequently, it takes years to finish.
I would like to go faster but it just eats at me to let it go.
With that said, one of my favorite events is the Rat Plastic Thrash where a single parts box model is built in one day. I actually saved this year's project.
I currently have a C project that is stuck because I don't have the time to complete the engine detail. I will, and when it's done I have a low detail - plug wires only - Paddy Wagon bash I want to whip out.
Let's see what that really means.

Enjoy the islands Tim.
I kinda liked the mpc slicks better. Can't tell you why for sure. They seem to tighten the whole thing up.
See you in a week.

Been pretty busy lately, and I had a couple false starts on the distributor. The one on the real car, it was a pretty dominate feature of the Nailhead mill, so it had to be done right. This is the one I decided NOT to use. Just was not right. Hosted on FotkiThe second one is in progress, and can be seen here. public.fotki.com/Scottcolmer/on_the_bench-1/page6.htmlThis detail stuff is tedious. I'd rather be filling and sanding. Hey Boom,
Do ya think the rear fenders need to sit higher than the front? It might help pick up that cool rake of the VW body.
Still bad ass no mater what.

Have the fun is making these things work. I have noticed that those who are outstanding at something have the ability to make a great save. I've seen this in golf with Tiger Woods and other sports too. Same goes for car building, big and small.
Good job. Keep the pics coming.

I know that freakish detail is not the cup of tea for a lot of you Klowns but it really puts me in the zone and I just can't let it go. SOooooo here is the result of at least 4 hours work to make fuel lines. Believe it or not, I really enjoy this stuff. Hosted on FotkiHere's the link with justr a little more detail on the build. I really enjoyed making those lines. Really, I did.... What? public.fotki.com/Scottcolmer/on_the_bench-1/page6.htmlFlounder

Hey Barten,
Here is another tip. Sometimes it is hard to find center. If I have a piece of white styrene rod I blacken the end with a sharpie. Then I use a pin to try to hit center. It will be a tiny white dot. If I am off, I use an exacto to open the hole in the direction needed to hit dead center. I also use a magnifying lamp.
I use this method to drill tiny hex rod so I can make little slip on nuts. (Slip on nuts? LOL)

Eventually it's worth it Tim. With the awsome paint you lay down, you'll want that body looking sweet. Can't wait to see pics. That and the finkmeat pie are two way cool builds.
Keep those progress pic coming. I have bench time tomorrow night. Hopefully I'll get the top half of the nailhead finished.

Hey Skurv.
Good to see you and the Krew last week. I'll have to copy the Messoschmit. Way too cool. Regarding the rims and tires I was going for a look similiar to one of your favorites - The Leg Show.
Take it easy Bud See you next week.
