The time has come to start on this one. I was hoping to finish the transport first, but that is gone thanks to a box falling on it and destroying most of it. NNL East's main category this year is Resin and although I don't care about the contest part of it, I would like a display on the main table. I bought this last year at NNL, it's an RMR kit. My original plan was this. 2D doesn't always transfer to 3D as planned. When I just started mocking it up it was obvious this wouldn't work. It just looked goofy with the front tires sticking out so far, the track was just too wide. So now we're going in more of a hot rod direction. The first layout of how it will look. This will be my first voyage into the world of resin. I know it will be a learning experience.

Now it's time to dive into this project. First up, a new floorpan from .040 sheet. The driveshaft tunnel is 3/8" tube cut in half with .030 sheet for the sides. The tubs are also .030 In the body. The firewall is .040 sheet and the door sills are .030 bottoms with the .010 sides. Some more in the body pics. This is pretty much the stance I'm shooting for.

I've got the frame started, along with the rear suspension. The frame rails are .080x.100 square tube, stacked two high and cemented together. The notches are .040 sheet, again doubled and cut to shape. At this point I'm just getting an idea of what will fit and what won't. It's very basic, but it fits good so far. Now it's time to start playing with shapes and try to "purty this thing up a bit". Airbag mounts are made from 1/4" tube and some scrap sheet, the crossmembers are 3/64" rod as are the suspension links. Getting close to having a roller on the desk.

A clear cover for the rear. Starting on the headers and intake. I built these using just the head for reference, the headers won't clear the upper A-arms. So it's either new headers or new A-arms.

As I said, the headers probably wouldn't make the cut. I decided to go with turbos on this build, this new setup should work pretty good with the idea I have in mind. I used a dash pod from a 58 T-bird , then scratchbuilt the face, column drop and gauges. I also made athe tach.

The cage and floorpan are going into the body shop today. The last part to the cage has been fabricated, the pedals.

What !!! No clutch ?? The boys in R&D wanted a challenge, they claimed building a standard transaxle was just too easy. ;D Armed with a second engine (thanks Bill), it's back to work. Mocking the second engine into position. Next up is figuring how to mount these.

After a trip to the tubing bender we have the turbos mocked up. I had to rework the driver side turbo to make the inlet and exhaust mirror the other one. First bends Fitting the exhaust to the turbo. The intake plumbing is fit. Now I need to find some nice looking scoops or airfilters.

I spent about 3 hours looking through parts and anything else I could find to either find or make some aircleaners/scoops for this thing. Nothing worked. So I started bending and drilling some 1/8" rod to come up with something different. I like what I have, but it still needs something to finish it off.

After hours of trying to come up with a way to finish off the intake I got so mad I threw the plumbing in the garbage and started over. I wound up doing basically the same idea, only this time the tubes go into the radiator shell where I'll hide the aircleaner.

I finally got back to work on this project. To detail the engines a bit, the molded in mounts, starters, and oil filters were ground out and filled. Then new pieces were made along with new distributors. I also have the frame, cage, engine blocks, and front engine mount in color. I's a nail polish called "Buffy the Violet Slayer". It looks like purple anodize. I hope to clear these parts tomorrow.

A little more work. The rear shocks are constructed but not yet painted, and the brake line for the rear calipers is done. The intake, headers, and turbo bodies are mounted.
