Thanks for the link. And for another opinion on this topic, read "Crap Cars" by Richard Porter (It's on my auto shelf and it's a GAS!): tinyurl.com/85unka

I knew that "track owner" looked too slick but I could not put my finger on it until someone else helped me--it was none other than Dick Clark of "American Bandstand"!!

Got this in the mail from Louis K. A nice little tribute to two famous drag show rods--d. ---------------- Pretty good history lesson regarding the Tom Daniel designed Barris/Dean built Munster stuff from the freaky 60's TV show... This one gets updated often, so if it's not on top, scroll till you see Herman and Gramps draggin' it out at the strip. www.nhra.com/insidedragster.aspLK

It's not the whole video, just the beginning.

A new twist on auto design. I have never been to the Petersen Museum, but I need to get there! By the way, the Art Center College of Design is where Tom Daniel did his schooling as did Dave Marek. ------------------------------------------- November 25, 2008, 1:25 PM
Please Don’t Feed the Designers
By PHIL PATTON
LOS ANGELES — Last Saturday, an exhibition examining the evolution of automotive design since the 1930s opened at the Petersen Automotive Museum. The exhibition, “Imagining the Future: The Southern California Automotive Design Studio,” includes, of all things, a functioning transportation design studio, created by the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.
I stopped by the museum after visiting the Los Angeles auto show and found, among other things, a display of design tools used over the years. The earliest tools on display were a wooden drawing board with a bright pastel sketch, French curves and big gum eraser. There’s also a quarter-scale clay model of a vehicle that appears to come from the 1930s and full-scale wall drawings.
A wooden door with a pebbled-glass window looks like it came out of the ’30s as well. On the window, where you would expect to see “Sam Spade,” it read “Styling” in reversed letters. To bring “Imagining the Future” up to the minute, students from Art Center periodically inhabit the display and demonstrate their work.
On Saturday, the specimens identified themselves as Jean-Hugues Nguyen, 22, and Clement Durant, 28, students in the Art Center’s Transportation Design department. The pair said they had been to the Los Angeles auto show, where they were impressed by the Kia Soul.
Mr. Nguyen was working on a long futuristic R.V.-like vehicle with huge tires. Mr. Durant was using an electronic pen to shade the front end of a sedan already sketched out in green. They were teased with questions.
“Do they ever let you out?”
“Have visitors been tossing you peanuts or other food?”
The students smiled and continued with their work.
“Imagining the Future: The Southern California Automotive Design Studio” is on view at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles until 2011.

We all need to try really hard to avoid selling disputes like the thread I just killed a few minutes ago.
Modelmaster1958 should have told us that there was an offer "Pending" when someone said they will take the lot for $1,500. Everyone else should have backed down and not thrown shots. Then it gets insulting and money is involved and.....there ya go.
One suggestion for the future: If you're selling something, post your E-mail and REQUIRE that people use E-mail and not the Corner's PM feature. Everyone uses E-mail. Not everyone uses PM here.
This part of the Coffin Corner is not Ebay. So I count on people being reasonable to each other. If this crap continues, this forum will close down and I'll ban all sales-related posts.
No need to reply, I have locked this post.

Here is a link to a gallery of 85 photos from today's D.A.R.E. car show in which I participated: gallery.me.com/gto1973#100037Barrisfan Mark was there with his Pinto Wagon. He now has a fleet of Pintos in various states. There were a total of 391 cars at the show. It's put on by the cops to keep kids off of drugs. Weather was 70s and breezy. I was diggin it. My personal favorite was a 1967 Chevy Biscayne (I had a 67 Bel Air in high school.) The guy bought it when he was 17 in high school. It had a peppy 327. It now has a 454 Chevy crate engine and 4:10 gears. Now get this--it's the original reddish color except for the truck deck. Looked fantastic!

Erica and I found the perfect holiday weekend car movie. We're going tonight! And it even stars a Mustang similar to hers--without the iron plating and 30-caliber Machine Guns--HA! You know we'll have to cruise the strip afterward Be sure to watch the trailer: www.deathracemovie.net/

I just became aware of this site and its convention through Tom Daniel, who has been invited to attend: www.diecastspace.com/Has anyone here joined this group and if so, what benefits are they getting from it? By the way, that convention, especially at that location, sure is temping. Now, how to convince my lovely bride to let me go? Hey hon, it's for the Make-A-Wish Foundation! --Rallymaster

Tomorrow I leave to visit Tom Daniel at his home in Utah. I'm upgrading his Macintosh to an OSX-level machine and training him on the differences. We'll also do some sightseeing of the scenic countryside and sip beer with fine cigars watching the evening sunsets and discussing the demise of the U.S. auto industry. I think most of you are aware that I got Tom his first computer in 2000 and flew out to Las Vegas twice to train him. It's time for an upgrade. Also, I'll tell you that I'm going to be discussing plans for a gradual restoration of Tom's California Street Vette. More on that another time as the plan develops. Before I visit Tom, I'm meeting some new friends in Newberry Springs, California. I'm going there to discuss the potential of engaging them in a non-profit plan to restore an historic gas station on Route 66. I discovered this abandoned relic in 2003 when I brought my 72 Chevelle back from L.A. to Memphis along Route 66 and I 40. (see photo below). So that's my Independence Day junket. I wish you all the best on this great American holiday and keep that glue flowing. --Dave R.

I have to do some research here Louis. Years ago on the Rally, I met the son of a female high school classmate who had met Cusenberry and had somehow acquired the Tiger Shark--the car the Dream Rod became. I think his name was Kevin Pallen. Anyone help here?

Dave, thanks for this post--I did not realize these were out. I'll bet that "elite" version has more goo-ga, but this one looks very good to me! Stokes old memories of stopping all activity for the neighborhood to come into our living room and watch the show.
