Yes sir I saw that .. she’s quite the mess with tire melt and missing parts !! I believe the intake set up is the same for the ZZZ28 , so that shouldn't be too hard to find ; the headers are a different story. The plastic on these Vette kits always looks so faded . If I ever decide to redo the Stink Ray I restored I would respray the body anyway. I checked my stash ; I have a Funster Camaro, but no Vette - sorry !

Holy cow, now that's what I call a save ! To be honest, I wasn't sure what you could do with the messed up mess you started with, but it turned out to be a real beauty

Nice build ! These kits were the closest thing to the race cars at our local track , I built two back in the early 70s but couldn't afford any more of them. I built all the reissues and was lucky enough to find a GTO rebuilder ,as that was the only one that didn't get a reissue.

I'm in the process of restoring an original Revell 50 Austin coupe gasser , and I was unable to save the glued in pieces of the clear yellow glass . Does anyone have an old sheet of the clear yellow that they dont need ? Will buy or trade if I can !

There were two different versions of these kits originally ; the first version I believe came with the spoilers . I remember even as a kid I thought they looked goofy and didn't put them on

I totally agree, Paul . I have had kits sitting in Johan and AMT display cases for many years ; some have been encased for over 25 years now and they still look like the day I put them in, the chrome shines and the decals haven't yellowed. I've had dust leave marks on chrome, so if you can , pick up some cases !

Maybe not a surprise where you are, but Walmart hasn't had models in my area ( Connecticut ) for well over a decade . Quite a selection too . I picked up the 64 Olds and the GMC Jimmy kits ,as well as a couple AMT show cases . The Olds and the GMC were 20 bucks each ; my hobby store 5 minutes down the road has them for $37.00 each.. I like to support my local hobby shop , but I cant see spending that much extra cash per kit.

I have had this kit for many years and decided it is time to build it. The Matador cannot be built stock, just custom, which is okay There are a few options such as a different rear window, opera type side window fillers and trunk spoiler. The parts fit well for a kit from 1989 and minimal sanding is needed. I will get it painted soon, probably burnt orange with pearl. View AttachmentView AttachmentView Attachment
I remember seeing this and the Gremlin custom kit when I was a kid. I always wondered if it came with the stock parts ,now I know ! I've never seen one built before, I'm looking forward to see how it comes out

I never was a fan of the Fire Iron , the dark looking cover photo, plus all that gold plating against the red and the spoked front wheels just didn't do it for me. The Fire Cracker looked better with the steamroller tires and I jumped at the chance to buy a supposed good rebuilder from a guy on a Facebook model site. Well I got it, but it was far from good, and far from a rebuilder too. Luckily Todd (Count Dragula) had a Fire Iron and we struck a deal. I planned on painting it red until I put a flat white as a primer, and I thought it looked good in white. Because there was so much gold plating , I painted some of the plated parts with chrome Alclad ; other plated parts were hit with Dullcote to take the shine out, and other parts were swapped from the junk Fire Cracker ,which had faded gold plating , which off set the new plated parts. The seat was painted with some old watercolor paint which gave it a look of a faded red leather. The decals had darkened edges, which seems to be a common issue with this particular kit, so I didn't clearcoat it in case it gets reissued again . I hope you guys like it !

Just when I thought the days of Ebay deals are over, I score this grail. Described as a few parts painted and "mostly complete" I looked it over , most of the parts were still on the trees and I didn't see much missing so I figured it was worth a shot. Well I won it for 42 bucks shipped, and the kit is complete right down to the decals ! Now if only I could find a Guber Wagon for this price ....

I think this really was a funny car with a caricature on it, different, but not really a show rod . I remember seeing this kit in the stores though I don't think I've ever seen one built !

Cool ! I tried to collect the whole set when I was a kid .Some were cool, but some, like the Dodge van, were kind of lame . I'm sure I never got all of them as I dont recall getting some that you have. It may have been cut from one sheet, but card companies weren't too fussy about how centered they were, as most wouldn't survive childhood !

I guess it depends - Is it something you built as a kid and want to keep it for the memories, or is it something you picked up years ago for a project ? If it was a childhood build, I'd clean it up the best I could and repair the damage.

Well I struck out on both ... The alcohol method took quite while, and it worked to a point but left some gold that wouldn't come off. I tried the acetone method last night, but only after a few seconds it took both the gold and chrome off ! I'm thinking this kit must have had some light plating done for the stuff to come completely off that fast. I guess its Alclad time , but thanks for the info guys !

Was it 91% alcohol? You need the strongest percentage for it to work. Try it on some sprue first if possible! It may be weaker, I'll have to check on that. I bought during the Covid crisis when alcohol was like unobtanium

I'm trying to remove some gold plating from an old TD kit and hopefully save the chrome underneath. I've read in numerous places that placing the part in alcohol for a very short period of time does the trick, but I had a test piece in alcohol for over 5 minutes and nothing happened - anyone have an idea if the gold removal is possible ?

I just went over the Fire Cracker I got last night , and its really rough , likely too much of a gluebomb to restore, so I guess I'm going to start searching for a Fire Iron kit - Thanks for the offer on the decals ! PM Sent,Don. Todd Pm sent, Todd !

Nice collection ! I had the later 60s hot rod versions of the first and third - I believe the first was the Blackbeards Tub, and the third was The Wurst.
